10.75" 3 KAPPA ALPHA THETA H A n intense pride for Theta and a love for the recruitment process are the driving forces behind Bridget's longtime dedication as the recruitment advisor for Alpha Mu Chapter. "When I was asked to join the Advisory Board, I was thrilled and said yes immediately. It's been an honor to help continue the legacy by recruiting the best of the best." Bridget took some time to answer questions about her own Alpha Mu experience and why she is committed to serving Kappa Alpha Theta. Why did you join Kappa Alpha Theta? "I joined Theta because I felt the warmth of the women in the chapter and knew I wanted to be among the best—Thetas were top in athletics and grades. After the first round of socials, I knew Theta was home." What did your undergraduate experience in the chapter mean to you? "My experience helped to shape the person I am today. I was a little shy when I started at Mizzou, and the women in the house showed me it was okay to be myself. Being a member of Theta allowed me to expand my interests and develop my confidence. " What are your favorite memories with your Alpha Mu sisters? "One time that stands out is studying for finals in the Theta library with Jenea Fowler Smith '94. Finals were pretty intense at the house, and we always found a way to lighten up the week. So many laughs and good times were had with all of my roommates: Mandy Narr Jury '95, Lainie Nanneman Giovanini '95, Betsy Schoenbeck Schoolman '95, Joanie Woodard Mitchell '94, Cortney Miller Malter '95, Daphne Miller Best '97, and Gwen Kretzschmar Ford '96. And I have to include my experience as intramural chairman and rush chairman. Serving on ERB with Becky Foley Mallen '95, Melanie Palm '95, and Kristin Stadler Butler '96 was one of the best weeks of my life." Tell us about your career and family. "I earned a bachelor of health science degree with an emphasis in communication and science disorders. I work in medical device sales as a clinical sales specialist in women's health, which consists of selling and consulting with physicians about my products and assisting in the operating room during procedures. "My husband, Brad, is a 1997 Mizzou graduate and FarmHouse alumnus. We have three children, John (12), Connor (8), and Abigeal (4)." What are the most rewarding and challenging parts of being an advisor? "In my 15 years of volunteering, the most rewarding is seeing my officers exceed the goals they set for themselves. I watch my officers take on the monumental task of recruitment and walk away with amazing leadership skills and increased confidence in decision-making and planning. "The most challenging part is when I see my officers making safe decisions when they need to think of more creative solutions. I encourage them to make their mark and try new things to achieve a better result. I've always told them that the recruitment programming needs to stay fresh and relevant. I've been lucky to work with amazing young women during my time as advisor." Do you keep in touch with Alpha Mu sisters? "Yes! Some of us have a standing New Year's Eve date with our families each year. Others I see less, but the beautiful thing is that when we get together it's like no time has passed. And when my mother passed away in May those same women came to hold me up at the funeral. There's an unbreakable bond that comes with Theta sisterhood. The support doesn't end once you graduate."
