10.75" THE THETA UPDATE 2 H T he women of Alpha Mu were reunited in the beginning of August for an exciting Spirit Week. It was a wonderful time for everyone to get to know each other better and focus on the values of our chapter. We even had a pool day during the week for everyone to relax! This fall, nearly 1,200 potential new members went through Mizzou recruitment. During philanthropy round, our fundraising director explained what it means to be For the Child and the events we host throughout the year to fundraise for CASA and Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation. "CASA is an organization most people haven't heard about, so it was so amazing to see PNMs learn and then become so interested in something that means so much to all of us," Fundraising Director Mackenzie Murray '15 said. Kits of coloring books and crayons were made and donated to CASA for the children. Overall, it was a very successful recruitment as our chapter welcomed home 63 new members. Bid Day was very special this year as it was the first time Alpha Mu hosted an off-campus event. Going off campus has become a trend among Mizzou chapters, and it was very successful for Alpha Mu. We went to Cherry Hill Park where lunch was served, there was a dance floor and many different photo opportunities around the park. The new members loved the Girl Power theme, as they felt encouraged to take on the next four years of college. Inspiration week was September 25-28 with events such as watching a movie on the lawn, going to Shryock's farm corn maze, and an ice cream social. All of these events led up to big and little reveal and initiation, which were both held on the 29th. For Homecoming we were paired with the men of Alpha Gamma Rho. We were so excited to work alongside them on the overall theme of Game On, Tiger Strong and our subtheme, Chutes and Ladders. We recently had our Homecoming service event at the Russell Elementary School's Fall Festival and over 100 Thetas and Ag Rhos volunteered. "It was absolutely incredible to see so many women have so much excitement for Homecoming and want to volunteer on a Friday night," said Becca Zeiger '15, fall activities chairman. "I was floored by how many people were here." This Homecoming we had two members on the steering committee, Sarah Le '15 and Caroline Dade '16. Also, two senior women made it to the Top 30 for Homecoming royalty candidates, Gretchen Metzger '15 and Jane Kielhofner '15. We capped off an incredible month with the official announcement that we were the overall winners of Homecoming 2018! We are excited for the momentum this gives us to finish the rest of this semester.
