in the card room who spoke about Gamma Phi with such love and compassion, and she communicated in a way that made Angie feel like there was no one else in the entire house even though they were surrounded by around 100 other people. "Denise made me feel comfortable, confident, and wanted," Angie said. "I knew I had to be a GPhi!" During her time in Gamma Phi, Angie enjoyed the everyday life of being in a sorority, including things like staying up late to study in the kitchen, getting ready for formals with her sisters, sharing clothes, late-night chats in the living room, and running back to the house to watch General Hospital at 2 p.m. She will never forget the entire chapter watching Luke and Laura's wedding in the TV room! During her junior year, she became more involved in Pi Chapter by serving as the recruitment chair. Angie says that it was easy to love being a member of Gamma Phi as she met some of her best friends during those four years. "Living with over 60 women teaches you about patience and compromise," Angie said. "There were so many fun times and celebrations, and a lot of camaraderie and pride, so it's been easy to keep a special place in my heart for Gamma Phi!" Angie graduated from UNL in 1986 with a bachelor's of science in business administration, and she holds a double major in marketing and management with a minor in mathematics. On top of being a Pi Chapter advisor, she also works for Merck Animal Health as the national sales director where she manages seven regions in the Midwestern and Western parts of the United States, stretching from Michigan to Hawaii. Merck Animal Health manufactures vaccines and pharmaceuticals used for the treatment and prevention of diseases in animals. "I love my job and the company I work for," Angie said. "Our mission, 'the science of healthier animals,' encompasses the passion for companion animals and the need to help the world sustain our protein-based food sources." After 20 years in the business, her favorite aspect of the job is making an impact on the lives of those who work for her, both professionally and personally, through coaching and mentoring. From a community perspective, Gamma Phi gave her passions of civic duty and responsibility through the early introductions of philanthropy. Outside of her professional life, she has been involved with several different organizations, including serving 12 years on the board of directors and as president with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She has also served on the board and as president of the Eppley Cancer Center Friends Board for four years, helping to raise over $1 million for the organization. Her passion for service provides her drive in her professional, volunteer, and personal careers. Angie takes those passions of helping others into her role as chapter advisor as well. She says that she was lucky to be welcomed by a fantastic executive committee and chapter when she started as an advisor in January. "These women at GPhi are remarkable, fun, smart, beautiful, and kind," Angie said. "As an alumna, it makes me so proud of the legacy that I left behind!" She wants to give a special thank-you to Lauren, Nicole, Rose, Tess, Chesney, Susannah, Chloe, Claire, and Anna for making her feel welcomed and valued. Angie's favorite Gamma Phi memory happened not long ago as her daughter, Ally Miller '18, was welcomed to Pi Chapter as a new member of the 2018 class. "Being at the house the day she ran through the doors to start her journey with GPhi is a memory I will never forget," Angie said. She stated that there is a great sense of pride to come back to the house after all these years to see what has evolved from her legacy. Pi Chapter is full of amazing women who care about the culture of the chapter, the university, and the community as a whole. Angie says that the best advice she can give to undergraduates is to "find your passion. It doesn't matter what it is because if you have enough passion you will be able to find success in your career and life. Don't ever study something you don't care about or take a job that doesn't give you great purpose and fulfillment. Nothing replaces passion and engagement, and these two things are absolutely critical in achieving your definition of success!" Angie is looking forward to taking some time off to cook with her daughters and nieces for Thanksgiving. She loves to cook, and sharing meals and laughter with those she loves the most is what makes Thanksgiving her favorite holiday. You can reach Angie at angiemiller@cox.net.
