Delta Delta Delta 3 o Marcine Crosby King, Theta Iota's new house director, it is the young women who live, laugh, dine, and otherwise enjoy friendships at 1834 Laramie who make the difference in her life at Manhattan, Kan. "I love them," she asserted more than once during a recent meeting with alumnae. "This is a beautiful home and a really fine university town," she stated, "but I love the girls." Under new guidelines the position of house director is required to be a full-time position. This was established by Tri Delta Executive Office who identified Marcine as a candidate for the position. A chapter officer, a house corporation officer, and the chapter advisor interviewed her and offered her the job, which she accepted. Last year's house director, Karen Robbins, was given the opportunity to work full time in this position, but she declined. A 1978 graduate of Regina High School in Northfield, Minn., where she has lived for nearly 25 years, Marcine's background as a house director includes last year with the Delta Gamma chapter at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She admits to missing Minnesota, her home state, but describes the biggest difference between Minnesota and Kansas as "the absence of the Scandinavian influence." Her husband, Bruce King, is a higher education administrator at St. Olaf College, a liberal arts school in Northfield. They have three children, Crosby, Jillian, and Carver, all in their 20s. Crosby and Jillian are Wartburg College graduates while Carver is currently a student at the same college located in Waverly, Iowa. All three of her children enjoy singing, while her two sons played football in high school. They were all able to continue these interests at Wartburg College. Marcine says that dancing, music, and sports are her biggest interests. Marcine's goals for Theta Iota include increasing attendance at evening meals, including family style dinner on Monday nights. Indeed, there were 120 collegians at the second chapter night formal dinner of the semester, a significant increase from before. "We plan to post the menu for an entire month at a time," she added. Vases of fresh flowers grace the tables in the dining room, courtesy of Marcine: "My gift to the house." She stressed manners at the table as a needed skill to be honed at Tri Delta. "Employers will take a prospective employee out for dinner. They will need to have great manners and be polite," she continued. As an example, Marcine expects Tri Deltas to excuse themselves from the table upon leaving early. Asked to name her greatest strengths for this job, Marcine replied, "I am an extrovert, and I am a meeting and events professional. I love the energy of young people!"
