THE BEARCAT SIG Zeta Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi at The University of Cincinnati V Fall 2018 136 Years of Zeta Psi Will You Help Us Reach Our 2018 Goals? A s we begin another school year, we're embarking upon the 136th year in Zeta Psi's storied history. It got me thinking, what has enabled the Zeta Psi Chapter to flourish for 136 years? ere are many things that have made us successful, but I believe there are three things in particular: 1.) the enduring bonds of brotherhood, 2.) the leadership lessons learned from running the house, and 3.) a strong base of alumni support. Enduring Bonds of Brotherhood It's remarkable how strong our bonds of brotherhood are across decades and generations. Many of our closest friends are our Sigma Chi brothers. I recently at- tended a wedding for brother Lee Groh '10. We had a contingent of over 20 Sig- ma Chis in attendance. e next day my wife remarked that it was one of the most fun weddings we had been to in a while. I reflected on that sentiment and realized it was because of the brothers in attendance. When brothers get together (aer 10, 20, or even 50 years), it's like we've never missed a beat. I always get chills when we all take a knee and sing the "Sweetheart" song to our brother's new bride. I'd argue that brotherhood like this has enabled the chapter to flourish like it has for the last 136 years. Leadership Lessons e second thing that's helped Zeta Psi thrive is the way that the active chapter adapts to change and learns amazing leadership lessons along the way. It's remarkable that more than 100 active brothers manage a budget of over $300K, and can self-govern at the ages of 18-22 years old. I believe this responsibility breeds leadership, adaptability, and ownership that keeps Zeta Psi running strong. Strong Alumni Support e final thing that has helped Zeta Psi stay a top fraternity on UC's campus are my fellow alumni like you. e brother- hood and leadership skills we gained as undergrads have translated to our adult lives and permeated throughout our fam- ilies and careers. We all have a sense of duty and personal responsibility to the White Cross of Sigma Chi. We couldn't give future generations the same experi- ences without your leadership. Help Us Reach $30,000 Annual Fund Goal We've set our 2018 annual fund goal at $30,000 and we've raised $7,400 so far. While we did not expect to outdo our in- augural year's efforts of $56,000, we are behind pace right now to meet our goal. Please join me in donating by visiting donate.zetapsisigs.com or mailing a check to: Lincoln W. Pavey Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 42605, Blue Ash, OH 45242. Checks should be made out to e Sigma Chi Building Co. for house improvements (preferred and non-tax deductible) or to e LWPEF for leadership programs (tax deductible). It's our duty to ensure the bonds of Sigma Chi Zeta Psi brotherhood stay strong for another 136 years. I hope to see you all at Bearcats games this season with the new energy of Coach Fickell!
