Six of the founders had recently been expelled from Delta Kappa Epsilon due to a disagreement over an elected position. Because Sigma Phi's constitution, rituals, seals, and other records were stolen from one of the founders' rooms, the group changed the name of the fraternity to Sigma Chi in 1856. Since that time, Sigma Chi has grown to include 244 active chapters and has initiated more than 300,000 members. Every year on or about June 28, Sigma Chis around the world celebrate Founder's Day. On June 23, 2018, the House Corporation and Alumni Association co-hosted a Founder's Day celebration at the Epsilon Kappa Chapter House. Active members and alumni, young and old, mingled and renewed the bonds of brotherhood. For those of you who were unable to make it, we hope to see you next time. All of you should be accustomed to reading about the accolades and awards received by the Epsilon Kappa Chapter. The House Corporation has also received recognition and was awarded in 2018 with the Outstanding House Corporation Award from the International Fraternity and the Board of Grand Trustees. This award is presented to housing corporations that demonstrate excellence in best management practices. Our House Corporation has won this award several times. As discussed in previous newsletters, fraternities have been receiving a lot of bad press over the last few years due to the irresponsible, and sometimes criminal, actions of a few. The Epsilon Kappa Chapter has been a shining example of how other fraternities should operate. Our alumni should be proud of the culture that has been instilled in our Chapter. I look forward to seeing you at the next event. In Hoc, Kirk Caraway '94 President, Memphis Sigma Chi House Group, Inc. kcaraway@allensummers.com Alumni celebrate Founder's Day at Epsilon Kappa.
