In our free time from studying, Xi has recently had a surge in intramural participation ranging from sand volleyball to basketball to badminton. This fall, our Homecoming chairs worked very hard organizing and cultivating ideas with our partners Theta Chi, Delta Tau Delta, and Kappa Delta. One of our goals this year is to better incorporate our amazing alumnae into our activities, so please stay tuned for opportunities put out by our vice president of alumnae relations. Kathleen Brangan Held '92 and the Importance of Strong Alumnae Support K athleen Brangan Held '92 is a proud Xi alumna. She was a firm supporter of the Honoring Our Past, Securing Our Future capital campaign, and has supported the chapter from afar as a member of Sigma Kappa's national recruitment team. Now as the National Vice President for Membership, Kathleen is excited to strengthen her enthusiasm for Sigma Kappa by promoting its traditions and values to future generations of young women. "It's an honor to serve as National Vice President for Membership for the next biennium," Kathleen said. "It's also a tremendous responsibility. National Council is a dynamic group of women and we have set big goals to advance and preserve Sigma Kappa. "As a collegian, Sigma Kappa gave me a home away from home and a place to develop as a leader. As an alumna, it has continued to invest in my leadership development and given me countless opportunities to serveāa passion I developed as Xi's philanthropy chairman (now known as the vice president of philanthropic service). Xi is a thriving chapter and my hope is that they continue to stretch and reach their goals, and leave a positive impact on their community. I also hope individual members will take full advantage of all that Sigma Kappa has to offer as collegians and alumnae. A few years ago at National Convention I had the privilege to announce Xi as the winner of a Three-Star Standard of Excellence Award; I'd love to be able to do that again. I know they can reach that goal!" Kathleen knows first-hand the importance of alumnae support and what that does for a chapter's success. Volunteer opportunities are abound with local collegiate and alumnae chapters, many of which work with your schedule to make it convenient for you. "And if you're at a place in your life where you feel like you don't have time to volunteer, you can still make a difference by making a donation of any amount to the Xi Housing Fund and/or the Sigma Kappa Foundation. If we all do a little, it will add up to a lot. "I hope all Xi sisters cherish our sisterhood as much as I do and will connect their legacies with Sigma Kappa. By signing your legacy up for the Legacy Link (www.sigmakappa.org/legacy-link), you are connecting your legacy to the sisterhood of Sigma Kappa at an early age and introducing our values: personal growth, friendship, service, and loyalty." Kathleen earned a bachelor of science in community health from KU. When she's not working or cheering on the Jawyhawks, you can find her cooking, reading, or playing a round of golf. She and her husband, Steve, live in Chicago with their rescue dog, Maggie. You can connect with Kathleen at katheld@outlook.com.
