TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY Scholarship and Academics Continue to Rise and Improve Thank You to All Our Scholarship Donors—You Make a Difference! W e are very appreciative of all alumni who have given generously to our scholarship funds. It's because of you that we are able to award some nice scholarships to deserving young men. After all, an education is why we all came to Iowa State in the first place. I'd like to give you an update on where we stand academi- cally and with scholarships. I come from the business school, so I speak in facts and figures, so let's deal with the numbers. Our GPA is strong, doing well, and improving. Here's where we placed in the spring: Gamma Upsilon 3.10 ATW National Average 3.06 ISU All-Men's Average 3.00 Our average chapter membership is right at 100. Our numbers now have us considered a large chapter. When I became a member, we had 24 members, only 12 living in. I want to thank the many brothers who have ex- tended their financial support to recognition of True Merit wherever found, including the house projects and scholarship program over the years. You have made our success possible and you've shown our undergraduate brothers what it means to be an ATW member for life. Here are the numbers on our fundraising efforts: Current Funds ISU Foundation $443,690.00 ATO Foundation $865,020.00 Estate Gifts $700,000.00 Pledges Open $147,000.00* Total Commitments to Date $2,155,710.00 *Note: If you have an open pledge, you may now send the balance of your pledge to either the ATW Foundation (memo: Gamma Upsilon Fund) or to the ISU Foundation (memo: Alpha Tau Omega Fund). In the early '90s we were almost out of busi- ness. Our mortgage was too big, and our cash flow was too low. Bill Gardiner '52, Dale We- ber '28, and about a handful of brothers flew into Chicago to determine what to do before we lost the house. Bill opened the meeting stating that he would not participate in any short-term quick fixes. We went to work and devised a way to lower the mortgage and develop a scholarship program designed to: 1. Attract the best and the brightest. 2. Reward good results. 3. Fill the house with those who aim for the best in themselves and their brothers. 4. Contribute to the world around themselves. 5. Repeat the above with growing success. This has been a strong program and we are work- ing hard to continue and improve it. Because of your generosity, we can continue to give mean- ingful scholarships to deserving young men. Plus we see more campus involvement, campus leadership, and community involvement. I'm proud to say the model is working and strengthening by the semester. Thank you to our recent donors listed to the right. We appreciate your support!
