TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY FALL 2018 GAMMA UPSILON WINS THIRD CONSECUTIVE TRUE MERIT BOWL Chapter Vies for Top ATW Chapter Award Gamma Upsilon with the True Merit Bowl after a brotherhood team-building activ- ity and cookout in August. T he fall 2018 semester has officially begun and all of us at Gamma Upsilon are ready to get to work for this year. From August 1-4, Vice President Ian Seal '16 and I attended the 83rd Bien- nial Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity Congress in Orlando, Florida. We are ecstatic to announce that we brought home our third consecutive True Merit Bowl back to the Gamma Upsilon Chapter, now putting Gamma Upsilon's total number of True Merit Bowls received at 19! We were also awarded Excellence in Recruitment, Scholarship, and Upper Alpha (Board of Trustees). It was a great time reconnecting with other chapter leaders and national staff members from across the country, and the cherry on top was being able to bring home the True Merit Bowl. Upon returning to Ames, I was extremely motivated and excited to get back to Gamma Upsilon to start working toward an even greater goal for the 2018-19 school year: winning the Top ATW Chapter Award. Gamma Upsilon was in the exclusively selected pool of chapters to be considered for Top Chapter this year, so knowing just how close we are is a huge motivational factor for our executive board and our members. This semester we have created more committees and leadership positions to get more of our members involved; we've added roughly 14 non-executive positions to increase productivity and results across all facets of our chapter. We are also collaborating with both Beta Theta Pi and Alpha Chi Omega on campus to host joint philanthropic events this fall, as well as continuing to educate our members on important issues on college campuses so that we can all be well-rounded men and leaders in the Ames community. Overall, Gamma Upsilon is all-in on working as hard as we can this year to prove that we are worthy of the Top ATW Chapter Award.
