T hank you to the brothers who made the pilgrimage back to Ames for the 110th anniversary of Gamma Upsilon's charter. The weekend was well attended, with dozens of brothers spanning decades of member- ship convening to rekindle old friendships and make new ones. Following the golf outing on Friday, there was a social hour with live music and drinks. The presentation at Saturday's formal dinner given by Bill Burke '74 (in Bill Gardiner '52's stead) was punctuated by a personal video message from ATW Chief Executive Officer Wynn Smiley, in which he highlighted ATW Gamma Upsilon's impressive list of recent accolades, as well as our record- setting progress toward one of the most robust scholarship endowments in the nation. The weekend was a wonderful chance to swap tall tales and recall chapter milestones throughout the years. It was also an opportunity to celebrate the strides made recently by the active chapter, as several of the 100-plus current actives reported to campus early to attend the festivities. It is by the virtue of all in attendance and anyone read- ing this now that the Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega is the longest continually operating fraternity at Iowa State University, and the fifth oldest chapter in the country. Thanks again to all of you, especially the brothers that made the trip back to celebrate. It was certainly one for the record books. PAGE 2 TAU TALK GAMMA UPSILON CELEBRATES 110 YEARS AT IOWA STATE Alumni and Friends Gather in August for Milestone Event ATW's CEO Visits Gamma Upsilon O ur beloved Gamma Upsilon Chapter was recently lucky enough to have a visit from Alpha Tau Omega National Fraternity CEO Wynn Smiley. After attending the NIC Health and Safety Initiative kickoff in the Memorial Union, Wynn stopped by to speak to our members about what a great organization they have chosen to join and about how important it is to uphold the good ATW name that those who came before us worked so hard to create and uphold. Afterward, Wynn toured our house with our Worthy Master to see all of our new renovations. In addition, members were given the opportunity to introduce themselves to Mr. Smiley and make a connection with the national organization that will last a lifetime. New Renovations Provide ATW with Academic Workspace T his summer, Gamma Upsilon received some incredible renova- tions. Thanks to the generosity of our alumni and Ms. Danielle Loven and her interior design company, Vivid Interior, we were able to upgrade our scholarship room. The old scholarship room was combined with the old pool room and both were remodeled to create one large room specifically dedicated to enhancing our brothers' academic success. There is a general study area that is equipped with study desks, new tables and chairs, reading chairs, and an abundance of outlets. The study area includes a set of doors that allows for a quiet conference area around a large table that was handcrafted by our house director. Overall, the updates to our scholarship room are fantastic and the brothers have already started to put the room to good use.
