It's important to stay educated and savvy about protecting your information. Redstone's Mitch Peters, Senior Assistant Vice President for Information Security, shares some insights on cybersecurity. Q: How does Redstone monitor suspicious activity on member accounts? A: e credit union utilizes a combination of tools to detect suspicious account activities. While we have multiple tools in place to help with detection, it is also important for members to monitor their own accounts. To aid in detection, members are encouraged to set up account alerts. Members can set up alerts within online banking for checking and savings accounts, and credit and debit card accounts. Utilizing these features will assist members in detecting suspicious activity and protect against this type of activity going unnoticed. Q: Does Redstone use multi-factor authentication for online account security? A: Yes, this functionality is currently available within online banking. Members have the ability to classify a device as trusted or public, along with receiving a phone call or text message as the second authentication method before access is granted. Q: Should I check my credit union account using public Wi-Fi? A: Checking your credit union account or other sensitive accounts on any public Wi-Fi is not recommended. When using a public Wi-Fi connection, it is best to utilize a VPN (virtual private network) solution to ensure your information remains secure. Q: Cyber criminals are using various strategies in hopes of stealing our information. What are some things that we, as members, can do to help protect ourselves? A: As cybersecurity threats increase, it is necessary to continue improving our cybersecurity awareness. e more we continue to educate ourselves about the types of threats criminals are using, the better prepared we will be. Share this information with your family and friends to ensure they do not fall victim as well. Below are some preventive methods: • Never click on links or attachments in an unknown email • Do not give out personal information via phone, email or text • Don't trust your caller ID – a number may appear to come from a trusted source, but is not • Don't share passwords with anyone • Keep your operating system up to date
