Josh Shults, Tony Carrillo, and Ben Meister all looked good. Shults was our outstanding wrestler tonight. Even the guys who came out on the short end can all take something positive away from their matches tonight. We've wrestled a tough schedule up to this point and we are seeing growth because of it. I think we will go to Sutter on Saturday and come home with some medals; tangible results from all of the hard work so far. Corning Yreka 7:30 p.m. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The anxietyfilled green room and draft day seem so long ago now to Aaron Rodgers. Still, on this weekend, any lingering feelings of frustration about how far he dropped will be directed right at the team that passed him up with the No. 1 pick nearly eight years ago. Rodgers brings the high-scoring Green Bay Packers (12-5) to Candlestick Park on Saturday to face No. 2 seed San Francisco (11-4-1) in prime time for a place in the NFC championship game. He'll take the field in the very venue where he became a regular fan as a boy rooting for Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Steve Young. Rodgers, who appeared in a preseason game at Candlestick in 2008, will play his first meaningful game at the stadium at last, as an eighth-year pro. He will look to avenge a 30-22 season-opening home loss to the 49ers. ''It will be fun. I went to a few baseball games there growing up, and saw a game there when I was in college,'' Rodgers said. ''Stadium's got a lot of tradition. Looks like we're kind of fortunate with the weather right now. Still wonder what that's going to be like. ''But it will be a night game, it will be loud, it will be a great environment and it should be a good show for the fans.'' Rodgers is putting on quite a show, all right. MCT file photo Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, right, scrambles against the San Francisco 49ers Sept. 9, 2012. He returns to Northern California, where he became a college star for California across San Francisco Bay in Berkeley, with a healthy cast of receivers and the swagger of a Super Bowl champion. When Rodgers dropped to No. 24 in the 2005 draft after Alex Smith went No. 1, he was asked about his disappointment. He so matter-of-factly said, ''not as disappointed as the 49ers will be that they didn't draft me.'' Now, everybody in the Bay Area and beyond will be watching his every move again. He already upset some friends he couldn't accommodate with tickets. Family first, with everybody else making the 4-hour trek from his hometown of Chico left to fend for themselves. Most important, of course, is getting Green Bay one step closer to another Super Bowl. Last season's chance at a repeat championship came to a screeching halt at the hands of the Giants in this very round at Lambeau Field. The Giants came to San Francisco the next week and won the NFC title game, 20-17 in overtime. Just as the Niners moved on from that heartbreaking loss and used it as a motivational push each day this sea- son, the same goes for Rodgers after being slighted by his beloved San Francisco on draft day. ''It's been a long time since the green room,'' Rodgers said. ''I have a lot of good memories growing up watching Steve Young and Joe Montana on TV and the Super Bowl wins and being a 49ers fan. That was a team I enjoyed watching and See PLAYOFFS, page 2B U-Prep Los Molinos 5:30 p.m. HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING Red Bluff starts strong in Sac River League NBA Portland CSNB Warriors 7:30 p.m. On the tube BOXING 6 p.m. ESPN2 — John Molina (24-20) vs. Dannie Williams (22-2-0), for vacant NABO lightweight title, at Santa Fe, N.M. The team announced the deal Thursday. Resop joined the AL West champion A's in a Nov. 30 trade with Pittsburgh, sending minor league right-hander Zach Thornton to the Pirates. Resop went 1-4 with one save and a 3.91 ERA in 61 relief appearances with Pittsburgh last year. He worked a careerhigh 73 2-3 innings, tied for seventh among National League relievers. The 30-year-old Resop allowed a .276 opponents batting average, including .237 against left-handed hitters. Special to the DN The Red Bluff Spartans wrestling team got off to a good start on the new Sacramento River League dual meet schedule Wednesday night. Red Bluff hosted Enterprise in Spartan Gymnasium and started off by spotting them 18 points in forfeits. The Hornets returned the favor as the Spartans won the first match of the night when Fabian Torres also won by forfeit at 126 pounds. Senior Jordan McManus was the first wrestler of the night to shake hands with an opponent. Enterprise's Steven Lyter beat McManus 9-2 last Friday at the NorCal Championships in Anderson. That did not sit well with McManus and after giving up an early take down he went to work and scored 17 unanswered points for a 17-2 technical fall and five team points. Jordan Johnson lost a close match to Michael Lee but it would be the last and only match of the evening Red Bluff would lose. Kyle Case dominated Justin Emmerson and pinned him in the second period. Kyle Crisel got behind 3-13 early to Jeremy Early but eventually won by injury default. Tucker Gulliford hit a mean headlock on Dustin Jesson in the first period and got six more points for the Spartans. In the 182-pound match, Cody Clinger and Greg Fay traded points for six minutes with Clinger getting the last two for a take down in over- time and a 9-7 win. First-year senior Erik Fulk got a second-period fall against Derrick Cummings. Enterprise received forfeits in the top two weights to make the team score 38-21 Red Bluff. The next three matches never made it to the second round as Chris Alcala, Miguel Blanchard and Dalton Gutierrez all recorded first-period falls to make the final team score 56-21.
