Annual Human Relations Banquet Being Held The Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission will celebrate its 40th Annual Awards Recognition Banquet at the March F. Riddle Activities Center on the campus of Methodist University, May 25 at 6 p.m. This year’s theme is “Fostering Empowerment and Innovation for All.” The purpose of the Annual Awards Recognition Banquet is to publicly recognize youth, individuals, businesses/ industries, commissions/organizations, educators, religious leaders and humanitarians that have been actively involved in improving the quality of life in Cumberland County. The keynote speaker this year is Sen. Margaret Dickson. Special greetings will be brought by Dr. M. Elton Hendricks, the president of Methodist University; Tony Chavonne, mayor of Fayetteville; Billy King, chair of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners; Dr. Frank Till, superintendent of Cumberland County Schools; Rep. Elmer Floyd, North Carolina House of Representatives; and Bishop Larry Wright, chair of the Cumberland County Ministerial Council. Maintain Your Yard With warm weather here, the grass is growing again and the City of Fayetteville urges citizens to maintain their yards. So, get outside pull out your lawnmowers and weedeaters and keep those yards pristine. It’s an easy way to keep our city beautiful. In addition to recognizing hometown heroes, the commission will also honor outstanding high school students through the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Endowment Fund hosted by the Cumberland Community Foundation. These honorary students and future community leaders exemplify outstanding academics and commitment to making a difference in the quality of life in their community.
