to Surviving Children reach out and embrace families of the fallen the same way she is." The Morales family lost Sgt. Orlando Morales, a husband and a father early on in the war in Afghanistan. Orlando was a soldier in the 7th Special Forces Group and was one of the first men killed in combat. He died after taking enemy fire in the Gersek region of Afghanistan. While Roxana has been able to reach out and help other spouses whose loss is fresher than hers, she shared that the pain is still so great. "People tell me all the time 'it gets better', but it doesn't – especially if you have little ones," said Roxana with a pang of sadness in her voice. "Sometimes I still have to get out of the house by myself to cry and scream because I don't want Angelina to see me that way." Angelina Morales is a cheerful seventh grade student at Berean Baptist Academy. Her family embraces that support network of their friends at Berean and also at the JFK Chapel, their church on Fort Bragg. In 2007 Angelina and Roxana participated in the Snowball Express through T.A.P.S. (Tragedy Assistance Program for Sur- vivors) when they flew to California for a trip to Disneyland with other surviving families. There are many organizations making a difference in the lives of these families as they go through the grieving process. The kids, ranging in age from toddlers to teens played corn hole, noshed on Mellow Mushroom snacks and socialized on the patio. The Army's Army hosts monthly events and the Fayetteville chapter kicked off in 2008 with just 3 volunteers. Today, they have grown to over 1,500 volunteers. Five years ago, Eunice Krumweide signed up to volunteer for personal reasons. Having experienced loss in her past, she said it has been most rewarding to participate in the events as her time allows.
