3 " Excellence is never an accident; it is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities." Mu Chapter is one of the few fraternities at the University of Washington that has been on campus continuously for well over one hundred years. We have never closed our doors due to low membership numbers, financial challenges, disciplinary issues, or any other factors. How is this the case that Mu has been successful when other organizations have not? I believe it is in large part because there is a consistent cul- ture of an expectation of excellence in all areas within the undergraduate chapter. Part of that culture of excellence includes the determination of continued growth of the organization. For the past several years the total undergraduate chapter membership number has exceeded 100. Our membership numbers were such that last summer the chapter actually had to stop rushing because there was simply not enough room for even one more new member in the House. Tremendous credit goes to the rush chairmen over the past several years, as well as to the men who have been HSP and HJP during that time period. As we rush new members during this summer, the chapter also has an unprecedented opportunity and responsibility to continue to demonstrate the commitment to excellence by pledging the best men coming to the University of Washington. But for this upcoming school year, and for the foreseeable future, the chapter will finally have the space to accommodate all of our members. How is that? Because our undergrads have been chosen, from among many groups, to steward an additional fraternity chapter house on our corner of 19th and 47th. The UW chapter of Delta Chi has taken a hiatus from campus for a period of what we believe will be three or four years, and we will be able to house all of our undergrads at our main chapter house combined with the additional leased house just across the street. We have named this additional house The Jackson House, in honor of the late US Senator Henry M. Jackson, one of Delta Chi's prominent alumni members. Significantly, Mu Chapter will also be able to renovate our existing chapter house during the upcoming summers while utilizing the Jackson House during the time that the main house is not available to the undergrad members. The first phase of this renovation project starts this summer with the renovation and restoration of the kitchen and dining room. As we embark on what is surely to be a period of glory days for Mu Chapter, we will continue to reinforce the consistent culture of an expectation of excellence in all that we do. Our proud and unique heritage, combined with our ongoing cul- ture of excellence, will be sung as our hallmark as we move into another period of greatness for our beloved Mu.
