Judy was a Christian and loved the Lord. Born in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late James Sanlin and Martha Martin Sanlin. Mr. Sanlin is survived by four sons, David Eugene Sanlin and James D. SONJA LOWERY SHORT Mrs. Sonja Lowery Short, age 79, of Shelby, NC, passed away on May 30, 2018. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hattie Putnam Lowery. She is survived by her son, Craig Short and wife, Missy of Kings Mountain; daugh- ters, Jan Jenkins of Shelby, Jill Morehead and husband, Butch of Grover, and Kandace Newton and husband, Darren of Shelby; brother, Richard Lowery and wife, Kaye of Shelby; and ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born September 24, 1957 in Roanoke, VA, Dianne is the daughter of Delphine Elizabeth Parks Conn and the late Rev. Gerald Eugene Conn. step-daughter, Brandy Jean Muscatell; one step-son, Bradley Dewayne Crowe; three sisters, Joanne Vance and husband, Arnold, Joyce Rick, and Judy Hallman; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ray Douglas Aldridge. A memorial service was held at Little Memorial Baptist Church. The Gaffney location of Gordon Mortuary is serving the family. DR. LADSON DUBOSE Dr. Ladson Lawrence DuBose, 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Dr. DuBose was born in Dazell in Sumter County, South Carolina, on August 28, 1927, to the late Thomas Chalmers and Crawford Jenkins DuBose. He served our country in the US Navy. Dr. DuBose is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Neal DuBose; children, Julia DuBose Smith and husband, Andrew Smith, of York, South Carolina; Ladson Lawrence DuBose, Jr, and wife, Susan Rafferty DuBose, of Greenville, South Carolina; and Neal Franklin DuBose and wife, Donna Kirkman DuBose, of Walnut Cove, NC; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by Betty's aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Grady Thomas Childers of Grover, North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dr. DuBose is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Chalmers DuBose, Jr. and Benjamin Franklin DuBose, and his sisters, Marie DuBose Munn, Alice DuBose Fowler, and Myrtle DuBose Pease. Born in Cleveland County on September 6, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Jacob Horace and Vernie Lee Green Bowen. Shirley is survived by her husband, Billy "Bill" Lowery; two daughters, Robin Brittian and husband, Kelly of Shelby, and Sherry Lowery of Shelby; and two grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. JUSTIN ELLIOT APPLEGATE Mr. Justin Elliot Applegate, age 29, of Gaffney, SC, passed away on May 25, 2018. Born in Lubbuck, TX, he was the son of L. Michele Anthony and the late Micky Applegate. He was a mem- ber of the River Tennessee Chickamauga Tribe and his tribal name was "Bear Making Dust." In addition to his mother, Mr. Applegate is survived by his step-father, Michael Ray Anthony; and two sisters, Deidra Applegate McDonald and husband, Jeff, and Hannah Henline.
