Even when the summer heat is at its worst, one thing that southerners enjoy at this time of year is a cold, sweet watermelon. It is certainly one way to keep cool and get refreshed at the same time! Though we can purchase water- melon pretty much throughout the year, it is never as good to eat nor refreshing as having it during the summer months. The Neal Senior Center is going to host a new summer event, a "Watermelon Social". This will include enjoying free watermelon to snack on while the heat is on outdoors! Also, we will be having a "Watermelon Carving" Contest. For this event, each participant (groups can make up a team, if desired) will need to bring their own watermelon and carving tools. There will prizes awarded for the most cre- atively-carved watermelon! It will be held on Thursday, June 21 (the first day of summer!) at 1:30PM at the Neal Senior Center. All you need is a good appetite for watermelon! To pre-register for the social, please call the Neal Senior Center at 704/482-3488. The deadline for pre-registration in Monday, June 19.
