GLENNIE ELIZABETH LATTIMORE SIMMONS BLANTON Mrs. Glennie Elizabeth Lattimore Simmons Blanton, age 97, of Newton, NC, formerly of Lawndale, NC, passed away on May 10, 2018. Born in Cleveland County on July 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Phylector Madison and Azalea Lisbon Thompson Lattimore. In addition to her parents, Glennie is preceded in death by her husbands, Matthew Simmons and Marshall Blanton; seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Blanton is survived by three sons, George Simmons and wife, Susan of Blacksburg VA, Ken Simmons and wife, Lecia of Catawba and Michael Simmons and wife, Jeanne of Denver; and five grand- children and eleven great grandchildren. Born in Roanoke, VA, she is the wife of Vernon Lee Ruppe and daughter of the late Fred and Helen Potts. Surviving in addition to her husband are her children: one son, Nelson Ruppe and wife, Tracy, of Gaffney; two daughters, Christie Brooks of Shelby, NC and Misty Lane of Smyrna; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters - Linda Johnson, Susan Chariker and Jennifer Bankhead. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Buren and Grace Robinson Hamrick. Mr. Hamrick served our country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was pre- ceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "lib" Hamrick. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Hamrick; son, Tony Hamrick, both of Mooresboro; sisters, Louise Harris of Ellenboro, Daisy Wylie and husband, Paul of Shelby, Elsie Dixon and husband, Calvin and Evelyn Walker and husband, Pete, all of Mooresboro; brothers, Charles Hamrick and wife, Katie and Jimmy Hamrick, all of Mooresboro; five grandchil- dren and nine great-grandchil- dren. GLORIA JEAN KIRBY SMITH Mrs. Gloria Jean Kirby Smith, age 74, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on May 8, 2018. She was born in Cherokee County, SC, to the late James Ezell Kirby and Mary Eleanor Cumberford. Gloria was also preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Clarence E. Smith Jr.; and by two brothers, Don and Tony Kirby. She is survived by her daughters, Sonya Smith Crawford and husband, Ronald of Boiling Springs, NC, Shannon Smith Bagwell and husband, Brent of Kings Mountain, NC and Miranda Shea Smith of Kings Mountain, NC; brother, Steve Kirby of Blacksburg, SC; sister, Naomi Smith and husband, Freddy of Seymour, TN; and nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. ALLEN CRANFORD AUSTIN Mr. Allen Cranford Austin, age 62, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on May 7, 2018 in Johnstown. Mr. Austin was born February 4, 1956 in Mecklenburg County to the late Locke and Kathleen Cranford Austin. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson. He is survived by his wife, Julia Ann Dellinger Austin; son, Daniel Austin and wife, Summer of Charlotte; daugh- ter, Annie Swink and husband, Josh of NY; six grandchildren; and siblings, Fredrick Austin and wife, Cindy and Marianne Smith and husband, Earnie. Mr. George Miller, Jr., age 74, of Green Creek, NC, joined his wife in eternal life on May 8, 2018. Mr. Miller was born January 10, 1944. He is the son of the late Mattie Hines Miller and George Miller, Sr. He is survived by his son, George Miller, III (Trey) and wife, Stephanie; daughter, Tarah Simmons and hus- band, Aaron; and four grand- children. ROBERT WHITWORTH Mr. Robert Whitworth, age 74, of Shelby, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Born in Cleveland County on January 11, 1944, he was the son of the late Carl Whitworth and wife Ottie Newton Whitworth. Mr. Whitworth served our country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam dur- ing the Vietnam war. In addition to his parents Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Doris Mull Whitworth. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly McSwain and husband, Doyle of Shelby; two grandchildren and one great- grandson; and three sisters, GARY DONALD LOWERY Mr. Gary Donald Lowery, age 76, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on May 7, 2018. Born in Rutherford County on May 31, 1941, he was the son of the late Johnny Roy and Helen Lois Newton Lowery. In addition to his par- ents, he is preceded in death by a son, Donnie Lowery. BARBARA ROSE DOVER JACKSON Barbara Rose Dover Jackson, age 77, of Blacksburg, SC, went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2018. Born in Mount Holly, NC she was the wife of the late Earn Lee Dover and the late Leon Jackson. She was the daughter of the late Ed Rose and Beulah Neeley Rose. She is survived by six chil- dren, Mary and Danny Tucker, Audrey and London Crawley, Ricky and Tina Dover, Sandra and Paul Dixon, Samuel and Yvonne Dover, and Sonya and Terry Dover Stacy; two daughter-in-laws, Sherry Rose and Amy Dover; twenty- one grandchildren; twenty- eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Dennis Rose and Steve Rose; and a special son, Barry Philbeck, who is also her pastor.
