More importantly, Andy is a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, Beth, live in Melrose, Massachusetts, with their two chil- dren, ages 4 and 2. Andy is also a great friend, has a passion for music, fitness, and anything with a motor, and loves to travel, especially to Martha's Vineyard and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In fact, Andy and Beth got engaged in St. John, later eloped on Martha's Vineyard, and have taken several trips back to both places since. Andy was diagnosed with a genetic form of stomach cancer in April 2016, five weeks af- ter the birth of his son. He began treatment at Dana-Farber at the beginning of May 2016, which included nine weeks of chemotherapy, followed by surgery to remove his stomach in July 2016, then another nine weeks of chemo- therapy. You Can Make an Impact on New Hampshire Beta Join the Alumni Advisory Board Today I am pleased to extend an opportunity for you contribute in a meaningful way to the New Hampshire Beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon by becoming a member of the chapter's Alumni Advisory Board. I'm asking for an investment, not of money, but of your time that will pay dividends in the development of the True Gentlemen that make up your chapter. The Alumni Advisory Board members are the key alumni volunteers responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and sup- port to the collegiate chapter, ensuring the chapter's strong health and continued growth. The Alumni Advisory Boards and its mem- ber training are organized around the 12 core areas of chapter operations: There is no set number of members on an Alumni Advisory Board and you do not need to live in Durham or the surrounding area. With today's technology, all you need is a desire to have a positive impact on a group poised to grow and do great things on the University of New Hampshire's campus and in the Durham community. By volunteering on an Alumni Advisory Board, you will help enrich the lives of the chapter members and make the chapter stronger. Please contact us if you would be willing to serve on the New Hampshire Beta Chapter Alumni Advisory Board. We look forward to hearing from you! In February 2017, after undergoing all of the surgery and treatments plus some complica- tions resulting in multiple hospitalizations, Andy received a clean cancer scan, and he began the tough road to recovery. He moved forward with a career change during the sum- mer of 2017, and in early September, he ac- cepted a new job as a healthy aging program coordinator at a Boston-based nonprofit. Andy had also been volunteering for the Livestrong program for cancer survivors at the YMCA twice a week, and he worked as a part-time fitness floor instructor as well. However, after a recurrence of symptoms, Andy underwent surgery on September 21, 2017, which showed that his cancer had re- turned and also spread. He was forced to decline the newly accepted position, and he began treatment at Dana-Farber on October 13, 2017. On Saturday, November 4, New Hampshire Beta alumni and undergraduates gathered at the chapter house for a fundraiser for Andy. Early in the fall, some of our alumni who were closest with Andy reached out to the alumni re- lations chairman to inform us of Andy's condi- tion. The chapter sprang into action and began organizing a fundraiser to do what we could for the Savage family during their difficult time. Raffle tickets were sold for $5 for numerous prizes that were generously donated to the cause. New Hampshire Distributors gracious- ly donated a Bud Light Yeti Roadie 20 cooler as a grand prize, won by Steve Holmes '03. (Continued on page 4)
