Canal Alliance congratulates Lucia Martel-Dow
on being named 2018 Woman of the Year by Assemblymember Marc Levine.
Lucia is Director of Immigration Legal Services (ILS) at Canal Alliance, which is the only affordable
provider of immigration legal services in Marin, providing over 1,100 low-income immigrants with
affordable legal services over the last year. Through the ongoing torrent of political and social
upheaval, Lucia has expertly led her team to educate, inform and support the needs of the immigrant
community, effectively meeting a need that no other organization was prepared to address.
Canal Alliance is a nonprofit champion of immigrants who are challenged by a lack of resources and
an unfamiliar environment. We need our neighbors to stand with us, because when we support
immigrants, Marin becomes a place where everyone can live, work and succeed.
Renewed more than 300 work permits
for clients whose Temporary Protected
Status (TPS) or Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was
expiring.
Established a network
of pro bono attorneys
who are prepared to
quickly respond in
moments of crisis.
Established a mobile
team to provide legal
services to underserved
and remote communities
in Marin County.
