He was recently elected president of the Alumni Board of Trustees at the UMass Amherst chapter and finds the brothers there to be engaged and exciting. In addition to the small group of brothers with whom he has stayed in touch, Jim hopes to reconnect with others at this summer's Delta Chi Convention in Denver, Colo. In honor of the Embry-Riddle brothers who dedicated themselves to the chapter over the years, Jim generously contributed to the First to Build campaign to fund the new chapter house. "Back in the '70s at a chapter meeting, a resolution was passed that the chapter would strive for its own house on Greek Row," Jim recalls. "And some 40 years later, it became a reality." He praises the brothers and alumni who toiled through the years with various fundraisers, even eventually selling the former house on Ridgewood and remaining "homeless" for a number of years. Jim visited campus for the house's grand opening and was thrilled to see how the chapter's hard work has paid off. As he has told the brothers he works with at UMass, Jim encourages the active brothers of Embry-Riddle Chapter to get involved. "You will be an alumnus far longer than an active," he says, "so make the most of this time. You will be forever grateful." In addition to a leadership role in his undergraduate years, Jim has fond memories of his days in the active chapter, including "playing ping pong on a warped piece of plywood for hours on end" with Wally Tiedemann '77 and Pete Bix '80, spending days on the beach with brothers, and his "youthful fling" with a motorcycle. Jim lives in Salem, Mass., with his wife, Cinzia. His son is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. Jim and Cinzia enjoy long day sails and time by the water in the summer, along with golf and cycling. You can reconnect with Jim at jamesjfd@gmail.com. Growing Stronger Together (Continued from page 2) w w w.deltachierau.com have to experience to fully appreciate. Multi- generational Delta Chi families; a graduate from '85 standing next to a guy who is 85; alumni from chapters that have long since gone dark, coming back to Convention time after time to be with their brothers. Convention is the Fraternity. So, come join us this summer, even if only for the closing banquet on Saturday night, August 4. Information at www.deltachi.org/ convention18/. If you haven't been yet, it's time to see for yourself. If you haven't been back to a Convention in a while, this is the year to come home. For everyone in the third category, I haven't told you anything you didn't already know. I can't wait to see you there!
