7 www.texaspikes.com T he Texas Pikes concluded a great fall 2017 and are again focused on academics, philanthropy, athletics and brotherhood for spring 2018. e chapter initiated 35 new members in December and we have a five-man pledge class joining us this spring. We have enjoyed a number of successful social events the past several months, including tailgating every home football game at our new location on 16th and Colorado last fall and we continued the Pike tradition of the Swamp build party and held an enjoyable fall semi-formal in Austin. Our spring semester starts with Pike's Peak winter party and Roundup in March is always fun. Many Pikes remain involved with club sports at UT, including lacrosse and soccer, and we also field intramural teams in flag football and basketball. Academics remain a priority for us as we welcome our new members to Beta Mu. e overall Pike membership GPA is a 3.24, placing our men tenth out of the 28 IFC fraternities at Texas. In addition to this, we strive to continue our deep involvement on campus outside of the fraternity. We have members proudly representing Beta Mu as they hold positions in a wide variety of student organizations, ranging from IFC officers to student government to Camp Texas counselors. We are also honored to maintain or presence in the Texas Cowboys and Silver Spurs organizations, having two of our members initiated into each group during the fall, and one new Silver Spur initiated this spring. Philanthropy continues to be a central part of this fraternity. In addition to maintaining our tradition of hosting a beat cancer Pancake Night with Alpha Chi Omega, we are pleased to have established an internal scholarship. anks to the many parents who participated in a silent auction at Parent's Weekend this fall, we were able to award two $2,500 scholarships to exemplary members of our chapter. Additional money that was raised has been set aside to create an endowment fund to further encourage community engagement and academic achievement. Countless hours also have been put toward philanthropic efforts such as preparing meals at Capitol Area Food Bank to managing a skeet shoot at a fundraiser event put on by the Austin Boy Scouts council. is summer, we are looking to build on the success of our recently broadened rush team and recruitment approach. Rush is the lifeblood of the fraternity, and we need the Pike family and alumni to recommend pledges. As always, we thank our involved alumni for your commitment to Beta Mu Chapter. Rush will be led in 2018 by Cole Martinez '16, a sophomore from Dallas studying sports management. We are grateful to Marquez Bela '94, Jeff Morales '93 and Brian Minnehan '92 for hosting an informative Career Advisory Session for brothers interested in careers in private equity in Dallas in January. Le: Nick ompson '16, Cole Martinez '16 and Parker Morris '15 visit the Pike headquarters in Memphis during the Chapter Executives Conference in January. Zach Evans '15 and Nathan Roberts '15 hanging out at the tailgate prior to the UT–Kansas football game. Connor Bailey '16 and Peter Wang '18 are two of the Pikes on UT's club lacrosse team.
