For James V. "Bo" Hemphill '91, joining Pi Kappa Alpha his freshman year became a small step leading to a lifetime of brotherhood. "I supported Pi Kappa Alpha because my experience was such an important part of my time at Mississippi State University. The friendships that were built my freshman year at the PIKE chapter house are still strong today." Bo's favorite memories are built around the times he and his brothers were together. Large events including the spring break fishing trip to Florida with Russ Lyle '91, Dave Nickles '88, and Jonathan Clark '89 or small events like chatting at dinner and attending chapter meetings all hold special significance. "Events that seemed insignificant at the time are the ones I remember the most now. All these memories and many more are what make my time as a PIKE special." Time as an undergraduate member with Gamma Theta sets the foundation of the full Pike experience. Bo reminds members to respect and thank the people who made it possible for them to have the opportunity to attend MSU and be a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. "Make sure you stay in touch with MSU, PIKE, and all of the friends you made during your time here. This University and Gamma Theta will be a great source of enjoyment in your life if you choose to stay involved. Similarly, Bo challenges alumni to become involved on some level by offering their time, recruitment referrals, or financial support. Doing so will ensure Gamma Theta remains strong for future members. "In my role with the athletic department I have the opportunity to stay involved with PIKE. It has been almost as much fun to participate and volunteer as an alumnus now as it was during my undergraduate years." Bo is the deputy director of athletics and development at Mississippi State University and assisted in the recruitment of the new football coach. He resides in West Point, Miss., and is thankful for his time with Gamma Theta. "I've met Pikes from many different eras and all have the same feelings toward Pi Kappa Alpha. It's a special place where we all developed a bond because of the time we spent as part of this great fraternity." He can be reached at bhemphill@ athletics.msstate.edu. "Make sure you stay in touch with MSU, PIKE, and all of the friends you made during your time here.
