Spring 2018 MANIFESTO C H A P T E R : t h e t a c h i b u . c o m | A L U M N I : g a m m a u p s i l o n . o r g On November 4, 2017, we hosted our first dad's weekend. The brothers' fathers came down for the weekend to meet everyone and participate in fun activities. Due to inclement weather, we were inside most of the day, but were still able to grill and watch college football all day, having a mini football party. Later that night, we organized a group of 23 people to go to a Rivermen hockey game. The next day, there was a breakfast with all of the dads and active brothers before everyone headed home. Hopefully, this can become a tradition. We would love to start a mom's weekend in the spring and dad's weekend in the fall. Fathers Join Gamma Upsilon Sons for First Dad's Weekend Thank You, Foundation Chapter Donors The Gamma Upsilon Alumni Corporation recognizes the following brothers as contribu- tors to the Foundation Chapter, the fundraising arm of Theta Chi Fraternity, in 2017. The giving groups, of which they are members, are for total lifetime contributions, not for the 2017 calendar year. Board of Visitors $25,000-$49,999 Dru A. It was moved from The Lariat Steakhouse to a location much closer to campus, The Fieldhouse Bar & Grill (home to many Bradley sports memorabilia), and from the Friday of Homecoming weekend to that Saturday. Our objective was to allow senior alumni to meet with younger alumni and current undergraduates so they could see where Theta Chi at Bradley University is headed in the future, and so young alumni and undergraduate brothers could learn of the glorious past that Theta Chi has enjoyed. Golden Guard brothers in attendance were: Walt Baselt '52, Bill Griffin '59, Lynn Gundersen '57, Roger Hill '59, Willis Hunziker '53, Bill Kohler '58, Tom McClintick '52, Ron McGauvran '55, Mike Unruh '57, and Gene "Bud" Wilkening '52. Walt, Tom, and Gene shared the distinction of being the "most senior" alumni in attendance, while Roger and his wife, Judy, flew into Central Illinois from Dallas for their annual fall vacation, making him the alumnus who traveled the greatest distance. Besides the 10 alumni of the Guard (and three wives), the luncheon was also attended by 15 non-Guard alumni (most from the 2000s) and seven undergraduates. Thanks to a challenge grant from Ron McGauvran '55, who matched five $100 donations (Jeff Albrecht '07, Bill Griffin '59, Lynn Gundersen '57, Roger Hill '59, and Alex Wolf '85) with $500 of his own, $1,000 was raised in just five minutes for the 2017 annual campaign and our forthcoming kitchen renovation project (summer 2019). More importantly, a great time was had by all as alumni that spanned more than 65 years mingled and spoke with each other. The 2018 Golden Guard luncheon is again set for the Saturday of Homecoming, but will most likely be at a location with more parking and better acoustics. 2017 Golden Guard Luncheon New Location and New Format Work Well!
