JANUARY 17-23, 2018 UCW 31 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Awwwwwwww When 5-year-old TyLon Pittman of Byram, Mississippi, saw the Grinch steal- ing Christmas on Dec. 16 on TV, he did what any civic-minded citizen would do. He called 911. TyLon told Byram police officer Lauren Develle, who answered the call, that he did not want the Grinch to come steal his Christmas, reported the Clarion Ledger. Develle made TyLon an honorary junior officer and had him come down to the station on Dec. 18 to help her lock away the Grinch, who hung his head as TyLon asked him, "Why are you stealing Christmas?" Although the green fiend apologized, TyLon wouldn't release him from the holding cell. Police chief Luke ompson told TyLon to come back when he's 21, "and I'm going to give you a job application, OK?" Horrifically, the motor ripped her scalp off from the back of her head to above her eyes and ears. Barnes was flown to Sydney, where doctors performed an emergency 20- hour surgery to save her scalp, but were ultimately unsuccessful. Barnes will have artificial skin attached to her head instead, reports e Sun. A GoFundMe page has been established to help with her medical bills. Patrons send an photo to the shop via an online messaging app, and the "Cino" machine takes it from there, reproducing the picture with flavorless food coloring in about four minutes. "Due to social media," shop owner Ehab Salem Shouly told Reuters, "the dining experience has completely shifted. Question: e E! channel acquired the People's Choice Awards last year and have now announced they won't air the 2018 show until next November 11th! While never one of the top awards shows, the People' Choice Awards was the one show that allowed fans to voice who they thought were the best entertainers. I'm wondering if E!, with this decision, will kill any interest in the show. What are your thoughts? – Greg Matt Roush: It appears E! made the scheduling change to get the People's Choice Awards out of the glut of awards season – typically, it would be airing sometime in January or so – and for that, I thank them. Which is not my typi- cal response to most anything E! does. Do we really need another awards show this winter? By being so focused on en- tertainment and self-promotion, E! may even give the special a bigger build-up than it was given on CBS, and it's less likely to get lost in the Globes-Oscars hubbub. at said, it's possible that by moving to cable, the ceremony will be seen as being more marginalized, but it's also possible that the new platform will allow the show to feature more nominees and winners, which I seem to recall being a criticism some fans had about the CBS telecast over the years. As usual when it comes to TV, you win some, you lose some. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to tvinsider.com. by Damian Holbrook Cheers to the "Christmas Story Live!" ladies. Sure, it's about a kid who wants a Red Ryder BB gun, but it was "Saturday Night Live" vets Maya Rudolph and Ana Gasteyer and Broadway-trained Jane Krakowski who fired up Fox's sadly low- rated musical. Cheers to "e Toys that Made Us" for making the docu-series fun again. After so many small-town murderers, secret- keeping church scandals and other dark- ly grim topics, Netflix's bouncy, insightful look at the histories of He-Man, Barbie and G.I. Joe is a plastic-wrapped blast of childhood nostalgia. Jeers to "Riverdale" for that shady re- veal. After months of sleuthing, Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Archie (KJ Apa) real- ized the town's masked killer was –gasp! – the now-deceased school janitor? You'd have to be high on Jingle Jangle to believe that's not a red herring.
