Rupert was born March 11, 1927, and was the son of the late Clay and Laura Canipe Blanton of Ellenboro. H e g r a d u a t e d Wake Forest University and obtained his PhD in Education from UNC at Greensboro. He was also a Navy veteran. Rupert owned and operated his family's liver- mush business, Blanton's Livermush, after the death of his father. However, the majority of his career was spent in education. He taught at high schools in SC and NC, and was principal at Chase Alternative High School. Rupert was a long- standing and faithful mem- ber of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. He was a passion- ate leader and teacher in his church's congregation. He served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and pianist for numerous years. Rupert had a thirst for knowledge and read his newspapers and magazines daily, along with watching the night- ly news and his beloved Jeopardy. In addition to his par- ents, Rupert was preced- ed in death by his wife of 54 years, Katie Blanton, and brother, Robert (Bob) Blanton. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Donna and Lee Matthews of Tifton, GA, and Neil and Annette Blanton of Oak Ridge, NC; a grandson; and brother, Jean Blanton of Midlothian, VA; along with nieces and nephews. A family graveside ser- vice will be held at a later date. Croweʼs Mortuary is assisting the family. RANDALL WAYNE JOHNSON Mr. Randall Wayne Johnson, age 65, passed away January 4, 2018. A native of Greenwood, SC he is a son of the late Graham Louis and Lois Hicks Johnson. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Johanna Franks and her husband Travis, one grand- daughter, one son Anthony Fortner, one brother Richard Johnson and wife Nona, one step brother Charlie Hopper, step sister Teresa Flack and a stepmother Lucy Mae Johnson and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to his par- ents he was preceded in death by one brother Perry Johnson. A celebration of life was held at Crowe's Funeral Chapel. Croweʼs Mortuary is assisting the family. PEARL BROMBERG Pearl Bromberg (nee Lisansky) passed away peacefully in her 95th year on January 3, 2018. Survived by her daugh- ter Debbi Stanfield and hus- band Craig Stanfield of Rutherfordton, her son, Dr. Kenneth Bromberg and his wife Dr. Philippa Gordon of Brooklyn NY, four granddaugh- ters, two great granddaughters and many cousins both here and abroad. Predeceased by her husband Oscar, her brother Dr. Milton Lisansky and sister Rhoda Salz. Pearl was born in Bronx in and raised her children in Little Neck Queens. After retire- ment she spent many years in Delray Beach, FL and in Lee, MA. Retired in 1980, Pearl, a teacher with the New York City Board of Education for 33 years, taught Health Education at Andrew Jackson High School and then John Baum High School in Flushing Queens where she was the Dean of Girls. Both Pearl and Oscar were proud NYC teachers and Union members who cared very much about teaching. She had a great sense of humor up until the end. She loved to play tennis and volunteered at Tanglewood during her many summers living at The Villages of October Mountain and went to theater and dance events in the Berkshires with her best friend Gladys Botie of Pompano Beach, FL. When her daughter and son-in-law retired and settled on their farm in June of 2013, Pearl came with them. She enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the horses graze and the beautiful seasons the area has to offer. We thank her caretakers Sandy, Linda and Patricia for all the love and kindness they showed her and were thankful for the help from Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. Morris Funeral Home of Asheville served the family. RUTH EVELYN KORNACKI Ruth Evelyn Kornacki, age 97, of Rutherfordton, passed away January 5, 2018. She was a native of Michigan and the daugh- ter of the late Angus Edward McKinnon and the late Jenny Olsen Peterson. She was a lov- ing mother and grandmother. Ruth was a great storyteller, had a great sense of humor and had a great essence for life. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Andrew Kornacki, four sis- ters; Arlene Reynolds, Laura Pearson, Katherine Macker and Adeline McKinnon and two brothers; Eddie McKinnon and Johnny McKinnon. She is survived by three daugh- ters: Carole Hodge and hus- band Clyde of Rutherfordton, Sandy DeWolf and hus- band Dale of Rutherfordton, Deanna Blakley and husband Larry of Stuart, FL. One half brother: Arnold McKinnon of California, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. The funeral service was held at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Andy Cilone officiated. Entombment will take place at the Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Activity Dept at White Oak Manor of Rutherfordton; 188 Oscar Justice Rd.
