JAN. 4 Town of Quartzsite invites every- one to attend the next meeting of Neighborhood Watch at 6:00 PM, on THURSDAY, JAN. 4, 2017, at the Quartzsite Community Center, 295 E. Chandler. Chief William Ponce said he looks forward to working with the resi- dents to create a safer community. Launched in 1972, Neighbor- hood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their pres- ence at all times of day and night. Sponsored by the National Sher- iffs' Association (NSA), the Nation- al Crime Prevention Council says, "Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the coun- try, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer." Sometimes you must do what is required." ~ Winston Churchill. So, the fl u hit Quartzsite hard over the past few weeks. It knocked me down and that's why the paper is late. Sometimes we learn that our best is not enough. We choose how we're going to work within our limitations. And just not give up. It took hours to do simple things that normally took moments. So, I rested; I tried to get back to work; I cried; I knew that thousands of people relied on me to get 'er done. We humans sure know how to put pressure on ourselves. At some point, I gave into the fact I could not make the deadline. It's not easy to acknowlege we're not superhuman; especially when trying to keep up the "image" we portray to the world. It's no fun knowing oth- ers will judge us for what they might consider as failure. Deepak Chopra said, "There is deep satisfaction in the now, which eternally renews itself instead of running after illusions that come from the past and deserve to remain there." .... or in other words, "how not to beat yourself up..." The key for me was not to give up. Keep on keeping on...even if it was just working an hour at at time, be- fore collapsing in exhaustion. Looking at the whole picture of what had to be done was overwhelm- ing, so I stopped thinking about the end result and just worked on one ad at a time, one page at a time, knowing eventually the whole proj- ect would be complete. It's that time of year when we refl ect and make some goals for the future year... Let us: accept each other for who they are; celebrate our differ- ences, enjoy learning about differ- ent cultures; treat each other as we would want to be treated; be grate- ful for every day we're alive; reach out to those in need-no matter what they look like; love life; make mis- takes - for that means we're doing something new; treat each other with kindness; bring the best of who we are wherever we go; forgive those who've caused us harm; share our abundance with others; show kindness; bring peace to the world.
