These go to the military families who can use them up to 6 months after expiration. Please help us in this endeavor to assist our Veterans. Coupons can be left at Post, Mt. Quail Restaurant, General Store, Community Thrift Store, or Lutheran Church. We are also collecting labels for the school and National Home for Children. You can leave items at same locations as coupons. The Boys and Girls basketball sea- sons are still in full swing. Their next few games will be on Janu- ary 9th and 10th at home, January 12th at San Pasqual, January 16th at home, and January 19th at Tohono O'Odham. Varsity Girls games start at 5:30 pm and Varsity Boys games start at 7:00 pm. Despite ups and downs the girls' coach Mr. McCarty remains optimistic saying, "We are improving daily. I'm excited about our progress and how far we will go until the end of the season." On that same note, the boys' coach, Mr. Clough, said, "We're a young team learning how to play together, so we can compete for conference championship during the second part of the season. The goal is to get better every day." In other news, Moriah Freedman won fi rst place and Hannah Phil- lips won second place in a district level essay and speech competition. The competition was put on by the Arizona chapters of the VFW. Both girls were in the running after win- ning high honors on a local level for the Salome and Quartzite VFW's. With her fi rst place win, Moriah will be going to a dinner in Casa Grande and be in the running for the state title. The competition was called "Voice of Democracy." All the SHS seniors entered the competition by writing an essay and then recording audio of themselves presenting it. Salome High School's yearbook class is introducing a new approach to yearbook ads. First off, there is a 40 dollar "Sign my Yearbook" discount ad. It is a very inexpen- sive way to support the school, it will help to highlight products you would really like to let the custom- ers know about, and it brings more customers into your location. As a business you just work out what kind of discount you want to offer then the yearbook staff will create an ad with that, one time, discount for the yearbook. The other ad is an 80 dollar "Highlight" ad. It is a way for businesses to help Salome High School even if they can't do a discount. This ad is a highlight ad because you get to choose some as- pect of the school that they are pas- sionate about to highlight. If you can't think of something to high- light, don't worry, the year- book staff can help you pick something that would be a great fi t for your business. If you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting to discuss the new ads contact the yearbook advisor, Mr. Tapp, at 928- 859-3453 extension 4805.
