Page 2 Columbia, 1925. This fall consisted of numer- ous on-campus social and fundraising activities meant to spread awareness of this crippling dis- ease, while raising money for the Indiana Chap- ter of the ALS Association. In late September, we sold event T-shirts, hosted speakers, and served ice cream sundaes on campus. The social and ALS fundraising effort concluded with the popu- lar All-Star Weekend wiffle ball tournament and lip sync competition. We are happy to report that we raised over $3,070 from All-Star Weekend! We would like to thank everyone that aided us in this venture and are excited to continue our efforts throughout this school year. indiana GaMMa WelCoMes 32 neW MeMBers After a successful year of recruitment, we initi- ated 28 new members in the Alpha class, three in the Beta class, and one in the Gamma class for a grand total of 32 new members. This total is a 32% increase in new members from our previous year of recruitment. Our goal during this year's recruitment efforts is to initiate 35 new members and continue to grow the size of the Chapter. As a Fraternity we will continue to recruit gentlemen that represent the three cardinal principles of Phi Delta Theta and embody the characteristics of outstanding young men. "I hope to continue the positive trend of getting good, genuine, men into our Fraternity and give the Fraternity the skills and motivation to keep recruiting this type of person," says Recruitment Chairman Brendan McGrath '19. MeMBer aCtivities Phi Delta Theta prides itself in being a Frater- nity with members who are both devoted to the Chapter and the campus. We are proud to report that 26 brothers made the dean's list for the 2017 spring semester, and eight brothers were named a Brothers Tony Trimpe '19, Stephen Neal '21, and Cole Seager '19 during our first recruitment event of 2017. Brothers Sam Dziwlik '20 and Daniel Tinkey '20 are all smiles raising money for ALS at our annual Waffle Sundaes event. Brothers Matt Monge '20, Derek Rippe '19, Alexander Waddell '19, and Reilly Crouse '20 stand in unison to recite the national anthem in preparation for the start of the annual All-Star Weekend sorority whiffle ball tournament. 32 New Members (Continued from page 1) top 100 student at Butler University with Broth- ers Drew Brothers '18, Tristan Feilla '19, and Chandler Howell '19 being named top 15 students. Over one-fourth of our Chapter holds a leadership position in an on-campus organi- zation, including student orientation guides, presidents of various community service orga- nizations, and involvement in the Interfraternity Council. Also, numerous undergraduate brothers were recipients of scholarships funded by Indi- ana Gamma alumni; which we are most grateful. See more details in this newsletter. intraMurals Phis have continued to improve their brotherhood with several accomplishments in the realm of in- tramural sports. Last year, we raised $1,720 for the Indiana Special Olympics program through Polar Plunge. Additionally, we took home first place in co-rec cornhole, co-rec softball, men's ping pong, co-rec whiffle ball, and men's whiffle ball. Phi Delta Theta also had a strong showing in spring sports, taking home victories in a vari- ety of events, including the sprint relay, Kan Jam, and paper airplanes, among many other strong performances. "Intramural sports is a great way to bring the house together for one common goal. We've had a ton of success over the past year and it's always fun to see our guys enjoying them- selves outside the classroom," Intramural Sports Chairman Samuel Weiderhaft '20 said. As you can see, the Indiana Gamma Chapter of Phi Delta Theta at Butler University is truly on a path for success. We are immensely proud of our members for their outstanding academic achievements, the impact they have had on the Indianapolis community through service and philanthropy, the various leadership positions and awards they have won at Butler, their tireless devotion to seeing the Chapter grow through re- cruitment efforts, and ultimately working to help this Chapter reach its full potential. We have lots of exciting events and adventures planned for the rest of the school year and are eager to share these experiences with brothers, families, and alumni alike. We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive from our alumni day in and day out and always encourage all Phis to drop by the house at any time. Here's to another great year of Phi Delta Theta and a continued tradition of success and brotherhood! Yours in the Bond, Brandon Beck '19 Chapter President bbeck852@gmail.com Ten brothers commit to improving their community by volunteering at a local forest reserve. Above, they are hard at work clearing debris and trash out of a small lake found within the reserve. Brother Logan Schwering '18 is serving his com- munity by creating a new gravel walkway along the fountain leading up to the bell tower. This effort was sponsored by the Interfraternal Council and all chapters on campus aided in this event.
