University of Kansas page 3 W e are proud to announce Gamma Tau took third place in this year's Jayhawks of the Galaxy-themed Homecoming. We partnered with the women of Delta Gamma and the men of Pi Kappa Phi and Alpha Kappa Lambda. The week- long event requires an enormous amount of time and effort, but more importantly it is fun! Thank you to all of our brothers that helped us achieve this feat. Some of the weeklong events we participated in were trivia night, scavenger hunt, canned food drive, Jayhawk jingles, Glow KU, and the banner and float design. Though Homecoming required much effort, it was also a great opportunity to bond with our brothers and other Greek organiza- tions as we competed against other organizations. A special recognition goes to our own Kakra Boye-Doe '18, who was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Excellence in Community, Ed- ucation and Leadership Award (Ex.C.E.L.). The criteria for the award is as follows: "Students are selected based on their leadership, communica- tion skills, involvement in the KU community, M embers of our Fraternity are always looking for ways to help out in the community. We are immersed in community service organiza- tions such as Natural Ties, Habitat for Humanity, and the Big Event, which, as the name would suggest, is a compilation of all groups and organizations on campus. Each respective group and organization is partnered with some- one in the local community who has expressed a need of some sort; this can include lawn work, painting, and other forms of labor. These events have made it possible for us to give back to the community in a big way. We also participated in the Hilarity for Charity Kickball Tournament. The Hilarity for Charity organization uses fun and unique ways to raise mon- ey and awareness for Alzheimer's and dementia. Congratulations to our champion team members, Graham Wood '21, Matt Johnson '21, Nate Smith '21, Breven Bennett '20, Jackson Smith '21, and Pavan Rao '20. Gamma Tau also participates in our Nationals-sponsored Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund Walk. This walk was held to help raise awareness for Type 1 Diabetes. Twenty-one of our members attended this event in September. We also volunteered in the advocacy tents. In all, this event raised more than $600,000. It is important that we, as members of this Fraternity, uphold the values that we hold so dear and continue to live lives committed to excellence in volunteering. Kakra has stated he owes much of his success and character to his position, experi- ences, and support at Gamma Tau. We concluded the week with a celebratory tail- gate marking the completion of our capital cam- paign. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this a very special Homecoming week.
