Psi Chapter: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Virginia • Winter 2017 A t its October 21st meeting, the House Corporation Board of Directors voted unanimously to proceed with planning, programming, and budgeting for the second and final phase of our work on 608 Preston Place: the restoration of the 94-year-old Chapter House's living quarters. Initial goals set by the Board include a review of the design elements of the current plans with an eye toward cost saving and schedule shortening. The Board directed the Building Committee to engage an architect to assess new design and program requirements that emerged during the time that Phase 1 (new Chapter Room and social space addition) was being completed. A major goal is to finish nearly all of Phase 2 work over the summer break to avoid shutting down normal house operations for any period of the school year. The Building Committee was also directed to work with the active Brothers to design an efficient kitchen and modern dining facility on the first floor, an additional bathroom facility on the second floor, and the addition of two to three bedrooms bringing the total sleeping capacity to 24 Brothers. New heating and air conditioning systems and an additional study area will also be features of the restored Chapter House. The Board has targeted the end of January 2018 to receive a preliminary budget estimate for Phase 2, revised design plans for Phase 2, and a marketing brochure promoting Phase 2. Construction start is targeted for May 2019 with project completion in September of that year. After a review of the Capital Campaign giving to date (nearly $1.6 million in total pledges), the recommendation was made to continue the campaign with a renewed focus on Phase 2. The Capital Campaign Committee will be restarting campaign initiatives this coming winter and spring. The original campaign goal of $2 million is considered achievable and appropriate for the work that remains to complete the Phase 2 restoration.
