Of anyone in my active member time, Mom Pat, hands down was the biggest influence. We still visit her where we're on campus. Krista: I remember Heather Comstock Claybrook '87 providing guidance to the chapter. Rebecca was instrumental too while I was an active member and she was living in Kansas City. Q: Do you stay in touch with your sisters from Phi? Jennifer: Yes, I am still friends with some of my pledge sisters and I keep in touch through Facebook as well. I have visited my sorority sisters in Kansas City, Missouri, occasionally. In Wichita, my children have grown up with the children of my pledge sister, Dawne Adams Lowden, and of course, my sisters, Rebecca and Krista, are a part of my daily life. Rebecca: I actually met my husband at my Phi roommate's wedding. Krista: Julie Phillips Karpinski '94 and I graduated from KU in 1998, and went on to pursue careers and have families. We reconnected around 2010, after several of our pledge class sisters experienced significant health issues or personal tragedies. When Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer, she galvanized several of us AXΩ sisters to get in touch again. We then spent several years going on annual girls' trips, until Labor Day 2015, when Julie died from metastatic breast cancer. I credit her for many things, but particularly, her sisterhood, friendship, and bond. Members wait for the arrival of the new members on Bid Day. * Legacy; relation in parentheses
