Anchored In page 2 FOUNDERS DAY FILLED WITH TRADITION F ounders Day was a special occasion for more than 250 ΔΓ alumnae and Alpha Upsilon collegians who celebrated at Brookhaven Country Club on March 25. The traditional candle lighting ceremony was performed by Dallas area alumnae presidents. Alpha Upsilon President Alex Klaassen '15 updated the group on chapter activities, including the great news that AΥ boasted the highest GPA among Greek sororities on campus. Amy Lisle Albrecht '74, house corporation board president, and Anne Fletcher Conwell '77, house corporation board treasurer, reported on maintenance and financial issues at the chapter house. This year, the Dallas Day alumnae sponsored a raffle that offered attendees the chance to win $250 in NorthPark Gold. The lucky winner was AY collegian Ida Vanderbough '15. Proceeds from the raffle were donated to Guide Dogs of Texas. Billy, a yellow Lab service dog representing Guide Dogs, was a special guest at the raffle table. Fifty-year member Carol Jackson Riddle '67 and 60-year members Judy Smith Moore '57 and Ancanetta Hooper Wright '57 were honored with gifts and cream roses. It was a day filled with tradition, remembrance and gratitude to Anna, Eva and Mary for a sisterhood founded on service and friendship. O n November 4, Delta Gamma alumnae descended on SMU with great anticipation of another home victory for the Mustangs. For the first time in many years, the SMU football team was undefeated at home. The University of Central Florida, a team ranked in the top 25 was the opponent. Unfortunately, after a great showing by the Ponies, UCF won the game in the final seconds with a score of 31-24. The day began with a lovely traditional brunch at the Alpha Upsilon house. Many DGs toured the house while others searched for their commemorative bricks on the patio or their photos in the composites which line the upstairs hallways. DG alumnae enjoyed catching up with pledge sisters and roommates from their college days. Tailgating was alive and well on the Boulevard. Music, food, and drink along with large TVs provided a festive atmosphere for the Homecoming parade. "Heroes" was the theme for the event and the many parade floats reflected this theme. DG was paired with Beta and chose to portray Olympic heroes. Other organizations chose first responders, astronauts and military heroes along with super hero characters. Mary Lee Filgo Miller '69 served as co-chairman of the 45th SMU reunion for the graduating class of 1972. Mary Ann Portman Schwab '69 and Ann Strausbaugh O'Boyle '69 were part of the reunion committee. It was a great day filled with tradition and friendship. Alpha Upsilon was happy to welcome so many alumnae and extends that welcome to DGs whenever they happen to be in the Dallas area. DGs from the class of 1972 celebrating their 45th anniversary.
