Kappa Kappa Gamma at Colorado State Univeristy Susan Knights Willmon '78 Cherishes Time as an EB Alumna Gives Back to Provide Shared Sisterhood Experiences S usan Knights Willmon '78 says joining Kappa Kappa Gamma seemed like a natural fit. Going through recruitment as a sophomore, she had an opportunity to meet several members of Kappa during her first year on campus. "I knew I needed a smaller place to belong, and sorority life provided an opportunity to be part of the bigger college experience that was not so overwhelming," Susan says. Being a member of Epsilon Beta, Susan expanded her leadership capabilities by holding various offices within the chapter and on Panhellenic. "I don't think I really understood the bigger world of Kappa at the time, but knew I was a part of a strong national organization when I traveled outside of Fort Collins and told people I was a Kappa." She encourages undergraduates to take advantage of opportunities for leadership and to get to know your sisters. "Many of these women you may never meet in your day-to-day life, but the shared bonds of KKG give you some common ground to begin with," Susan says. The memories Susan remembers most of her time as an Epsilon Beta are the ones where the whole chapter was together. "Hopefully having spaces at the house where the chapter can meet together will foster a sense of unity and enhance the memories they make during the CSU days," Susan says. She felt compelled to support the capital campaign because she wants the expansion of the chapter house to provide more women an opportunity to live in the house together. Susan hopes that today's Epsilon Betas will have some of those shared sisterhood experiences that she still cherishes from her days as an EB. "Living with 60-plus women taught me that I need to be able to work with my sisters, together, and respect our different outlooks," she says. FIRST KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA HOUSE CORPORATION BOARD FORUM A SUCCESS T he fraternity offered its first-ever House Board Forum this past summer in Columbus, Ohio. I eagerly anticipated this event as an opportunity to connect with others and find resources that would allow me to better serve Epsilon Beta and manage our beautiful home. The connections began right away at the airport in Columbus where Kappas were gathering under the bouquet of blue balloons, designating our initial meeting spot. I met women from around the country who varied in experience level, from years of House Board service to brand-new board members and all generations. We discovered quickly that we all shared similar challenges in how best to serve our chapters in an ever- changing environment filled with special dietary needs, emotional support animal requests, and differing communication styles and devices. Our ability to connect and communicate with one another so quickly demonstrated the bond of sisterhood with the passions we shared to serve. The weekend forum was filled with information from keynote speakers, educational sessions, roundtable discussions, and a vendor fair. Presenters included fraternity staff and officers, professional speakers, and business representatives from assorted disciplines, such as legal, insurance, and finance. Our schedule was jam-packed, as there was so much to learn, but we also found time for sharing and networking. We heard about new collegiate trends in housing and lifestyle choices and had a spirited session on "Generational Synergy and Understanding Across the Generations." There was also a technical session on the ins and outs of Ke Reports and resources on the KKG website. We learned the fraternity is improving the website to provide better tools and resources to help us be successful in our roles. I flew back to Denver, my head filled with new knowledge and confidence. I greatly appreciated the tools and resources that were provided to me and the relationships that I formed. Now I am eagerly looking forward to the challenges and opportunities in expanding our chapter house in Fort Collins, making it the home of first choice.
