When she stepped into Kappa Kappa Gamma, that vision came to life. She says it was just as she'd imagined. "The women were so lively and fun— the energy and sense of belonging were very strong," Sue says. Little did Sue know that this journey of joining Epsilon Beta would not only lead her to her first job, but also a lifetime of friendships and opportunities. As Sue began to grow as a collegiate woman in her undergraduate years, Epsilon Beta and her sisters were right alongside her. "Kappa had a huge impact on my confidence and my ability to organize and lead," she says. In her time at Epsilon Beta, Sue says she felt a place of belonging, of acceptance, and of true sisterhood. She was motivated to support the Honoring Our Past, Securing the Future of Epsilon Beta Chapter campaign because she wants to provide those same feelings and experiences for future Kappas at Colorado State. "The chapter can't hold Monday night meetings or initiation at the house because it is so small. The women eat in shifts because the dining room and kitchen are not large enough for the chapter." Sue says, "It breaks up the continuity, camaraderie, and some of the magic. We all need a little magic in our lives." To Sue, giving back to Epsilon Beta is important. She acknowledges giving back is a concrete action that says, "Kappa mattered to me." She feels she owes it to the earlier Epsilon Betas who allowed her to stand on their shoulders as she took her turn as an active member. When Sue reflects back on her time in Epsilon Beta, she thinks of all the skills, memories, and friendships she gained because of Kappa Kappa Gamma and how she wouldn't be the same without any of it. "What are those friends and skills worth?" Sue asks. "Priceless is my answer. My pocketbook does not allow for priceless, so instead, I did what I could, stretched a little knowing I could never repay the gifts I was given at Epsilon Beta." Sue, who studied communications at CSU, went on to spend her career in marketing and advertising. She spends her days traveling with her husband as she is now retired.
