Only By Heather Caton Youth and their families from in and around LaPaz County joined us in Quartzsite, Arizona for the annual Science Camp Out during October 20-22 2017. On Friday, students kicked off the event with participated in learning from experts from everything from Amateur Radio, Robotics, Desert Animals, Geology, The Human Body and Nerves, Vehicle Mainte- nance and so much more. JOTA Science Camp They had the chance to get on the air waves and participate in the 2017 National JOTA event. JOTA is an annual event in which millions of Boy and Girl Scouts and youth from all over the world speak to each other by means of Amateur (ham) Radio. Students and community Amateur Radio Operators meet new friends and shared ideas via radio waves. On Saturday the learning and fun continued with workshops all day, including Robotics, Kit building, Drone fl ying more science and radio fun. The evenings were full of presentations including some from local hams, Ashtyn, KI7HHU, Neil, W6FOG and President of MyLaPaz, Dave, K1AN. The evening also had stories around the campfi re along with the amazing star show of the meteor shower. We are so grateful to all that attended and our organizers in addition to all the volunteers and supporters who made this weekend possible for the youth, creating life long memories and friendships.
