www.kufiji.org 5 Pi Deuteron Is on a Roll, Brings Back Fiji Islander T he spring semester was a busy one at Pi Deuteron. At the beginning of the semester, we were pleased to initiate 25 solid young men. These leaders of tomorrow have plenty of potential and it will be exciting to see what they accomplish with their time here at 1540 Louisiana. Twenty-five members also participated in Rock Chalk Revue. Practice lasted for an hour each day from the time we returned back to school until the first show on March 2nd. We owe Kappa Delta a huge thank-you for being such great partners. The show raised more than $25,000 for Habitat for Humanity to help those in need. We also had a Royals game date party, a karaoke date party, and our annual formal at the Ozarks. Because our house looks so nice, KU Greek Life asked if they could give tours for their recruitment efforts. These lasted throughout the semester and we had the privilege of showing off our fantastic home. Over the summer, significant changes were added to the facility. The floor- ing on the second- and third-floor hallways and bathrooms were refinished. We also painted the basement and added a scholarship room consisting of 25 desks to continue boosting our rising GPA. Last but not least, we resurrected the Islander tradition. We held a philan- thropy week leading up to the event, which had a fantastic participation rate from the sororities across campus. We raised $2,000 for the USO. At the end of the week, we celebrated our accomplishments with 300 of our closest friends at Fiji Islander. Fraternally, Matt Johnson '18 Phi Gamma Delta President (913) 787-4472 / mattj_25@yahoo.com The Return of Fiji Islander F iji Islander has been in the works here at Pi Deuteron for some time now. Thankfully, everything was able to come together per- fectly this year to bring back the longstanding tradition. We owe a great deal to Tuffy Mayor '66 for helping us with certain logistics of the event. Andrew Bellerive '19 and Sam Nigro '19 put in countless hours of work to ensure a smooth operation. The duo booked the venue and worked out all of the details for the day. Our total headcount for the party neared 350. Once everyone had made it to the house, they then piled into buses and headed to the venue in Wellsville, Kansas. A huge thank-you goes to Robin Dunn for letting us utilize her farmland to host the event. At the venue, we laid more than 15 tons of sand. There was also a live DJ, a fully roasted pig and buffet, and large volleyball court. While some spent the majority of their time on the dance floor, most had a blast socializing and showing their dates a good time. The party was a great success for all, and we look to continue building on it in the future. Pi Deuteron hosted a dance contest at the Chapter House the Friday of Islander Week.
