She did not know at the time that the women she met then would still be some of her closest friends. Even after all this time, some things just feel right from the beginning. As an active member and as an alumna, Harriet's goal for the chapter has remained focused on maintaining the tradition. "I was proud to wear the Kappa Delta pin and worked to uphold our high standards and contribute to the successful image of Sigma Omicron." During her college years, Harriet joined the Illio staff and eventually became an associate editor, which led to her being selected for Mortar Board, a national college senior honor society. For this, she has always given great thanks to her Sigma Omicron sisters. "The chapter helped me negotiate the challenges of a large university and made sure I became involved in campus life. I am grateful for my Kappa Delta sisters who inspired me." Living at the chapter house provided her a chance to be social and through that, she become a leader. Even seemingly insignificant skills at the time turned into lifelong talents, such as how to properly introduce someone or set a proper table or host a formal tea.
