2 OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY D ale Jewett '47 decided to join Epsilon Omicron when a few of his classmates also decided to make the pledge. At 90 years old, Dale remembers his collegiate experience favorably with the sheer amount of solidarity that was demonstrated with his induction into the fraternity. He discussed the sense of camaraderie and fellowship that ultimately enhanced his college experience for the better. As an undergraduate, Dale studied mechanical engineering and graduated with his bachelor of science degree in 1950. He used his educational background throughout his career as a petroleum engineer and retired in 1992 from Gould Oil, Inc., where he served as a vice president petroleum engineer. The most important element of Dale's experience with the Chapter was the overwhelming sense of friendship and the quality of relationships that he built with his brothers. "My best man in my wedding was actually one of my Alpha Tau Omega brothers," he said. Dale shared that some of his favorite memories include when he would travel with his brothers to Tulsa, Okla., for weekend trips since many of his brothers lived close to the University. "It was a different time," Dale recalled. Before going to college, Dale was enlisted in the military during World War II and was anticipating his deployment at boot camp when the atomic bombs were dropped in Japan in 1945. During his time as an undergraduate member of Epsilon Omicron Chapter, Dale also learned the importance of communication and working with others. "The Chapter taught me how to properly socialize," Dale stated. With numerous social events and formal dinners, Dale and his brothers learned how to work together and cooperate with diverse groups of people. Dale lives in Hutchinson, Kan., and enjoys flying his small airplane, fishing, and spending time with his family. Dale and his wife, Avril, have five children.
