4 www.DesertMessenger.com October 4, 2017 Two governing board vacancies Western AZ Vocational Education Joint Technical Education Dist. #50 and Wenden Elementary District #19 La Paz County School Superintendent Jacque Price announced that there are two vacancies on county school district governing boards. One vacancy was not filled by the November 2016 election for Wenden Elementary School District. The other vacancy occurred when Mrs. Price accepted the resignation of Mr. Mike Chumley from the Western Arizona Vocational Ed- ucation Joint Technical Education District #50, also known as the WAVE JTED, which encompasses the Parker Unified School District #27. Arizona Revised Statutes ยง15-302.3 outlines the county school superin- tendent's responsibilities in filling a vacant governing board position. Vacancies may be filled either by appointment or by a special election. Mrs. Price has determined that appointments will best meet the needs of the community and school districts. The term of each appointment will be from the appointment date through December 31, 2018. Both posi- tions will appear on the General Election Ballot on November 6, 2018. The WAVE JTED seat will be elected to a two year term on the November 2018 ballot. The Wenden Elementary District seat will be elected to a four year term on the November 2018 ballot. To qualify as a governing board member, the applicant must have been a resident of Parker Unified/WAVE JTED District or Wenden Elementary School District, respectively, for at least one year prior to the appointment and must be a registered voter in the respective districts. Please note that according to state statute, no employee of a school district, their spouse, or another member of the employee's household may hold membership on a governing board of a school district by which they are employed. Interested citizens shall complete a Governing Board Application, avail- able at Parker Unified School District Office, Wenden Elementary School District Office, La Paz County Education Service Agency (ESA) Office, and on the website, www.lapazschools.org. All applications should be sub- mitted to Jacque Price, La Paz County ESA, 1112 Joshua Ave., Suite 205, Parker, AZ 85344 no later than 5 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2017.
