For more information or to RSVP, send a note to alumni@texaspikes.com. ALUMNI UPDATE Chapter Eternal Verne D. Philips '46 entered Chapter Eternal on May 5 at the age of 98. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Lavon. Verne was born in Dallas on November 3, 1918, to Vincent and Beulah Scarle Philips. He resided in Austin at his death. Milton P. Overstreet '56 entered Chapter Eternal on March 26 in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 80. Phil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emile, his three daughters, and his seven grandchildren. He attended the University of Texas. Phil graduated with a bachelor of business administration in 1960 and was an avid Texas Longhorns fan. He worked in the insurance industry his entire life and earned his certified life underwriters license in 1973. He was a well-respected insurance broker and was highly regarded and well-liked by his colleagues. Alumni News John J. Boren '45 lives in a retirement community near Chapel Hill, N.C. He recently turned 89 but still plays tennis a few times a week. E-mail: chch3515@yahoo.com Dr. David D. Michie '55 retired in 2009 as founder and president of Clinical Physiology Associates. He is a former professor and chairman of the Physiology Department at Eastern Virginia Medical School. David and his wife, Donna, have two children, David and Sharon. James is president of American Bank of Commerce. E-mail: jarnold@ theabcbank.com Carson Carruthers '07 has joined Jeffries Investment Bank's Energy Group in Houston. Carson spent the last several years as a reservoir engineer with Anadarko Petroleum following his graduation with a petroleum engineering degree from the Cockrell School of Engineering in 2011. Carson held several Pike offices and was a Silver Spur. He and his wife, Ruth, live in the Woodlands with their 16-month-old son, Clay, who, Carson proudly notes is destined to be a Longhorn Class of 2038 member. Daron completed medical school at UT Southwestern in 2013 and more recently has been in emergency medicine residency at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
