PI KAPPA ALPHA • UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS • FALL 2017 T he Beta Mu Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has been an important part of the University of Texas community since our founding in 1920, and over 2,600 men have had the honor of being initiated. ese men have created a long history of success at UT, in business and in life. As Texas Pikes we were all impacted in some way by the leadership opportunities, social engagements and, most of all, the friendships that we devel- oped. ose of us who enjoyed the brotherhood and friendships we developed at Pi Kappa Alpha will forever owe a debt of gratitude to the organi- zation for our experiences and opportunities. Our house is the heartbeat, soul and gathering point for our chapter and alumni. Without a vi- able house we will not have a viable chapter. As most of us know, our house has been in serious need of updating for many years and has now reached the point of no return. For the past three years, a group of alumni has been working dili- gently to develop a comprehensive plan for a fu- ture chapter house. We have engaged architects, consultants and alumni and produced plans for a new house, conservative financial budget and initial fundraising to ensure that we are well on our way to a first-class chapter house for Beta Mu. e new house will feature over 22,500 square feet of conditioned space, 35 single bedrooms with semi-private baths, computer center, confer- ence rooms, full commercial kitchen, sport court, and ample parking. A new chapter house that is a modern, functional and safe place to socialize, study and live will ensure the future of the chap- ter and keep Pike one of the leading fraternities on campus. Equally important, the new chapter house will be a catalyst to pull the Pike family to- gether: actives, alumni and their families. e new house is designed to be the comfortable gathering point for our alumni, family and friends during the football season and through the school year. e new house will be paid for via a combination of fundraising, with a goal of $5 million (five- year pledges), and financing of $1.5 million that will be easily serviced by the chapter's operating revenue. rough the generosity of 95 early do- nors, $3,727,000 has already been committed to the capital campaign. While we are pleased with our start, we know that we need all our Pike alumni to step forward to help meet and exceed our fundraising goal. Chairing this campaign has been a blessing as I have been able to reacquaint and talk with many Pikes I have not seen in 35 years, as well as meet young and older Pikes that I never knew. I have had great meetings and conversations, and I can tell you we have a committed alumni base that, like me, were shaped in some way by their UT Pike experiences and friendships. is new house needs to be built, not only for the actives but also for the alumni. We all want a home for the chap- ter that we can be proud of and that will ensure the chapter will be there for the next 100 years. We also need a house where we can comfortably gather to reacquaint with our old friends, share our stories and support Beta Mu. I look forward to joining you as we cut the rib- bon on the front porch of the new chapter house. In the coming weeks, you will receive more in- formation detailing the project and the ways in which you can assist in our efforts. I hope you will join the growing list of loyal supporters who have already committed to the campaign. We have the opportunity to be part of a once-in-a- lifetime capital campaign and project. Let's make it happen! Yours in Phi Phi Ka, John A.
