Page 4 HUSKER SIGS ACHIEVE RECORD RUSH P erhaps one of the most important parts of any fraternity is its ability to recruit new members to carry on the Chapter's vision for the future. At 1510 Vine, recruitment through the summer has been in full swing with three fantastic recruitment chairmen with new ideas about effective recruiting and building on past best practices in qualifying new members for Alpha Epsilon. This year's chairmen are Trevor Wood '19, Connor O'Dell '19, and AJ Abrevaya '18, who each come from different backgrounds and pledge classes. Their efforts have been nothing less than spectacular. As the Husker Sig goes to press, we are proud to report that we have 36 pledge commitments from a broad geographic footprint. Take a look at this impressive group of new Sigs beginning their formal association with Sigma Chi this fall. Those listed with an asterisk are Sigma Chi legacies, a source of real strength for our fraternity. For perspective, this is the largest pledge class in the recent history of Alpha Epsilon. We were very selective and deliberate as we considered our ability to effectively absorb and train this many young men. It takes a real commitment on the part of members to work with new pledges. We're definitely upbeat about doing a great job in that regard and very excited about this new class. This is a very geographically diverse class as well. Our customary good results continue in Omaha and Lincoln and we are encouraged that we have 18 new Sigs from Nebraska in total and have made inroads in more western locales like Broken Bow and North Platte. Also notable is that we have new members from 11 other states. Sigma Chi starts the 2017-18 academic year in great shape with a fully occupied house and a great group of new brothers. A lumni and friends of the University of Nebraska will flock back to Lincoln for a September 23 Homecoming with old friends at the place that led to so many good memories and opened the door for so many opportunities. It promises to be a busy weekend. First, of course, there is the game. Nebraska and Rutgers will kick off at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. This is our first Homecoming against Rutgers. This promises to be a busy and exciting time to be on campus, as a parade, football game, float competition, 5k fun run, and a concert on the East Campus are planned by the university. Meanwhile, the Greater Nebraska Area Alumni Association will host an alumni reception and tailgate at the Chapter House beginning at 12:30 p.m. Sig alumni, family, and friends are welcome to attend. Homecomings have a particular significance for Sigma Chis, as our brothers, past and present, will once again be together, just as they once were before. Brothers of any graduating class are encouraged to come by the house for the tailgate before the football game. Undergraduate brothers are keen to be an integral part of this reception, welcoming alumni to the house and participating in the festivities. Our hope is that you walk into the house at 1510 Vine with great memories and great friends. We are eager to see you! We're excited to invite alumni and their families back for this year's celebration on September 23.
