Alpha Chi gave me a great place to live. It exposed me to great, high-quality people with a broad variety
of personalities, academic interests, and backgrounds. It was a much more personal place to live than
the dormitories. I was able to establish closer and more helpful relationships with the people around me
than in the dorms. Alpha Chi was family; we looked out for each other, we helped each other, and we
exchanged each other's family, sometimes with extended visits.
Living in the Alpha Chi house taught me about a part of life that is at least as important as my technical
skills. Associating with, interacting with, and becoming friends with people who would become leaders in
industry, business, government, military, medicine, law, and other important roles in our society provided
enormous value. The outstanding people I associated with every day at the Alpha Chi house greatly
expanded my understanding of people and how to interact with them. Without the social functions of
Alpha Chi, I would have missed what became the most important part of my life. I met my wife and life
partner at an Alpha Chi function. – BENNY ANDERSON '58
