Oh, how I love Google! One never knows where the journey will take you! With a recent of "inspire you to shine" I came upon a site that suggest- ed I clean my kitchen sink! Say what? What does a clean sink have to do with inspiration? Well, instantly, memories of my ceramics teacher came fl ooding into my mind. When a student walked in with a bad attitude, the instructor strongly suggested the student clean the ceramics lab sink, which had built up pounds of dried clay. By the time the student had cleaned the sink, his attitude had changed.
What the heck does all that have to do with Quartzsite right now? I would suggest that with Mrs. Laura Bruno as the new Interim Town Manager, she will inspire people to get the job done and move forward. When we allow someone to empower us, we learn how to empower others. Empowering others to accomplish their goals is not all about how much dirt can we fi nd on the Internet. If you were to search my name right now, you'd fi nd all kinds of stories writ- ten by people who have no clue about

me or my history. I learned someone posted that a realtor sold my home to a convicted sex offender. Oh, well. It's amazing what the Internet says. But they write and talk, just because they can. But if we continue to focus our thoughts on how horrible a given situ- ation was, we won't be able to see the opportunity that may present itself to us in the present moment. Living in the past can be addicting, however, we usually "change" what we remember to fi t our circumstances, to rationalize our actions. When we live in the moment and "expect" life to provide us with learning experiences, "negative" events just happen. We can get over the drama and move forward with renewed hope for the future. Our winter visitors are headed our way soon. Snowbirds will gather again near our community. Will we welcome them with open arms in the moment, or get stuck in the past? The Internet has spawned protests and attacks on thousands of innocent people around the globe. Many people have intentionally tried to cause an uprising; even here in our town, with engaging in posts intimidating oth- ers, name calling, fi nger pointing (or fl ipping), and even death threats. It's time to get over our anger, allow the progress that happens when people arrive from all over the world, bring-

ing fresh ideas and suggestions. There are always those who wish to return to the good ol' days, before rules and regulations. Quartzsite was known for its fun, carnival atmosphere. The hippies remember Woodstock, too, but guess what? They got old and many evolved into active participants in their communities. It's up to those living today to make Quartzsite a fun place again.

U.S. Population Reaches 314,395,013 on Constitution Day
Fun means "Enjoyment, amuse- ment, or lighthearted pleasure: "any- one who turns up can join in the fun". There are many opportunities in Quartzsite for folks to join in the fun! The Womens' Club is hosting a new event called a Beer and Wine Harvest Festival on Nov. 10th. I'm sure they could use some volunteer help, even if you're a guy! There's the Rockin' in Quartzsite Artist Reception on Nov. 3rd, and other events listed on Page 8. For crafters and artists, the Business Chamber is hosting another new event the weekend after Thanksgiving. See the info on Page 5.
Be sure to check out all the events posted on the new calendar listing online at www.VisitQuartzsite.com hosted by Proud Neighbors of Quartz- site. The events will look very differ- ent than in years past, as each year new folks arrive in town and step up to volunteer in local organizations. Young Future artists can be inspired by the work of others by attending each of these events. Maybe one day, our children will be setting their own booth at one of the shows happening in Quartzsite!
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the U.S. population will reach 314,395,013 at noon Sept. 17th, 2012, which is the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787, in Philadelphia.
Sept. 17 is recognized as Constitu- tion Day and Citizenship Day to commemorate the creation and signing of the supreme law of the land and to honor and celebrate the privileges and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship for both native- born and naturalized citizens. Fed- eral law requires that all schools receiving federal funds hold an educational program for their stu- dents on Sept. 17 of each year.
So be sure to bring your youth out to all the events happening this year! Empower them to be inspired!
Or we could return to the old Quartzsite of 1960... when there were only 55 people living in town.
