7 ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CHANGES LEADERSHIP, BOASTS SPEAKER SERIES SUCCESS T he Seabury Alumni Board has really taken flight, thanks in large part to the efforts of Amanda Look '05, who has served as president of the board since its formation. Due to some very exciting developments in Amanda's life, she has decided to step down as president of the Seabury Alumni Board. Amanda is now engaged and her fiancé has received a job offer to work for an international school in Doha, Qatar. They will be relocating this August. I have agreed to step into the role of president and Brendan Mark '02 will be serving as vice president. Brendan joined the board shortly after participating in our Seabury Alumni Speaker Series this past fall. I would also like to welcome new Alumni Board member, Kathy Chung '06. Kathy lives in London and we are happy to have her participation from afar. We are charged and ready to continue the great projects that Amanda helped inspire. ALUMNI SPEAKER SERIES Our Seabury Alumni Speaker Series has been a huge success. We are bringing back alumni The Seabury Alumni Board hosted the 2016 Annual Holiday Party at Decade Coffee, owned by alumnus Louis Wigen-Toccalino '03. We had a fabulous turnout. Louis, thanks for hosting us! (Continued on page 8) Phil Anderson '07 was honored in March by the Topeka Police Department during their annual awards ceremony for going above and beyond in the line of duty. A few months ago, he saved a woman's life while on the job. David Lawrence '11 worked for the winner of the democratic primary for mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, in 2015, who was also endorsed by the governor of Connecticut and Connecticut's two U.S. senators in advance of the general election. David lives in New York and works in management consulting. Alicia Cotsoradis '14 won a full-tuition scholarship to study abroad in New Zealand from DePauw University. Alicia is an Honor Scholar who plans to pursue a career in medicine. She said of the scholarship, "I chose to study abroad in order to eventually make me a better doctor. My patients will have such a large array of backgrounds, and during this semester abroad I want to work to know cultures other than my own so I can better my empathy skills and set myself up for success. Specifically, I chose New Zealand because it represents a culture of imagination and an appreciation for all things beautiful." Eilish Gibson '14 was encouraged by science and math teacher Rose Emergo to apply to QuarkNet, a high school internship in a KU particle physics lab. She was accepted and after many more summers in the lab, Eilish decided to study physics at KU. While at KU, she heard about the Goldwater Scholarship and recently learned that she was named a 2017 Goldwater Scholar. She says, "Thank you, Rose, Phil, Alice, and Anna for your support and mentorship over the last seven years." Class Notes ALUMNI GIVING BACK TO SEABURY I am happy to report that the annual Seabury Fund received $3,530 from 32 alumni. This may seem like a small amount of the more than $200,000 raised in this year's annual drive, but every dollar counts and it's fantastic to see so many former students' names on the donor list. Our alumni participation this year doubled from last year. We are thrilled to see more and more alumni getting involved with the school, donating, and connecting with teachers and students.
