September 5, 2012 Quartzsite Business Chamber gearing up for another busy season By Joanne Winer The town has been pretty quiet over the hot summer months, but that doesn't mean that nothing ever gets done during this time. Many busi- nesses are closed during the summer, but the owners will be coming back soon and getting ready for another winter season in Quartzsite. Those who have stayed open over the sum- mer have had a hard time with the monsoon weather creating havoc, but they too are looking forward to the upcoming "snowbird" season where the town will be filled with winter visitors and all kinds of events will be going on--summer may seem like a time to rest up for the winter, but most times there is no rest for those who have to prepare for the influx of people who come here to have some great times. KBUX Quartzsite Radio 94.3 FM • Quartzsite's Favorite "CLASSIC HITS" • Local Information • Weather • 24 Hours Day / 7 Days Week! 928-927-5111 First locally-owned and operated music station in Quartzsite, Arizona. Proudly serving the communities of Quartzsite, Bouse, Brenda, Rainbow Acres, La Paz Valley and beyond, since 1988. The Quartzsite Business Chamber has been very busy over the summer preparing for the winter season. They have printed out, folded and inserted over five thousand show schedules into their Quartzsite brochures so far, and have sent packages with them to Chambers and Visitors Centers all over the state. They are still making up packages and have already sent 35 out with many more to come. This is something that they do every summer before it gets really busy. They also send these brochures and schedules all over the western side of the coun- try and up into Canada--it is a lot of work but brings people here. The Business Chamber has also been getting a lot of calls from all over the world looking for information on the winter season, show schedules, and from vendors looking to come here to set up for the winter. They send out packages of information to everyone who calls and give out all kinds of brochures and schedules to anyone who comes in to the office. The cost of printing and mailing all these things out is high, but it is worth it to help people who want whatever infor- mation they can get about this area. The Business Chamber is also do- ing a new event this fall--A Santa's Workshop Arts and Crafts Festival. This event is going to be held at Tyson Wells Showgrounds, and will include indoor and outdoor spaces. All craft- ers are welcome to participate and all entrants must have handcrafted items--no commercial vendors are allowed. This is a new fundraiser for the Business Chamber to replace the Chili Cookoff, and will be held for two days--November 24th and 25th--lots of time for your Christmas shopping!! The show will have all kinds of crafts, not just Christmas items, and there is a $25.00 charge for a space either outdoors or indoors (indoor spaces are getting filled up fast, so get your applications in soon if you want to be indoors). Camping is also available through Tyson Wells' office (separate from craft show fees). You must bring your own tables (and canopies if desired outdoors) and one crafted item to donate for the raffle. No permits are needed since this is a fundraiser and the items will be hand- crafted and not commercially made. It is the same as any other craft show but will be for two days. If you are a crafter and want to be included in the event, please get your applications as soon as possible and get them turned in so space can be reserved before they are all gone! The monies raised from this show will help the Business Chamber do all its printing for the season--thousands of copies of events, maps, schedules, points of interest packets etc. need to be done for all the people who go to the office looking for information, and for mailing out. This is the only fund- raiser for the Business Chamber and is hoped to be a big success, bringing in crafters and people from all over the county to have a great time--Mr. and Mrs. Claus and their elves will be there at scheduled times, and a big raffle will be held each day. Come and be part of all the fun!! For applica- tions, go to the Business Chamber office at 110 W.Main St. or call 928- 927-9321 for more information. Also coming up in December will be the 10th annual Christmas Elec- tric Light Parade that will be held on December 8th this year. This parade has been a wonderful addition to Quartzsite, and brings out the holiday spirit in everyone who participates or watches. It is hoped that everyone will get their ideas going and put together a float or lighted entry in the parade this year and make it one of the best ever--there are many catagories you can enter and lots of trophies to win!! Next February, there will be an- other new event coming to Quartzsite- SEE CHAMBER PAGE 10
