10 www.DesertMessenger.com April 19, 2017 Traveling with Gypsy Jane Patricia Dodge is turning out to be my best friend, even tho we don't agree on A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G! During my recent illness, since one of my best friends is in Nevada and the other is visiting Australia, for some un- known reason, I called Pat even tho she is hardly more than an acquaintance. BUT, I liked her. She was always friendly and upbeat when we met. Honestly, we don't exactly disagree on everything, just the three most im- portant things: SEX: We've never dis- cussed it. RELIGION: She's a believer; I'm not. POLITICS: She's a Trump supporter; if I were younger, I would be in the streets protesting against him. Oh yeah, and I'm into health BIG TIME while she thrives on French fries, arti- fi cial everything, and fast-food joints. Yet, somehow we get along famously. Here's why we get along: Pat is the kindest, sweetest, most considerate person you would ever hope to meet. She's very dependable. She anticipates my every need. We both love to laugh.... a lot. We both LOVE to eat. (She can ALWAYS be talked into splitting des- sert.) We're both stubborn as hell. And that's just for starters... I offered to hire Pat, but she wouldn't hear of it; so every time we go to Parker our fi rst stop is for the best donut in the world at the donut shop; my treat. Whenever we run errands, I treat her to lunch at a different restaurant what- ever city we're in. She took me to the hospital in Parker one evening, drove back to Quartzsite when she heard I would be there for 3-4 hours, and drove back to Parker at 10:00 p.m. to pick me up. I don't dare ask myself if I would do that. *-*-*-* "A good friend will help you move, but a true friend will help you move a body." ~ Steven J. Chamber's End-of-Season party at Leadwell We hear so much about the "good ol' days" in Quartzsite. It's time for a QUARTZSITE THROWBACK! Some folks might remember when families had a party out at Ledwell's, north of town at the end of the season and before the heat sets in. So...Quartzsite Area Chamber of Commerce & Tour- ism is changing up their mixer this month and having a Party at Ledwell on Saturday, April 22nd starting at 6pm. The Chamber will provide the Meat and Drinks for $10/person donation. Please bring your own chairs and a dish to share. To get there, drive out Hwy. 95 north of town to mile marker 114. Turn west on the dirt trail. This season's rainfall has made the road a bit of a challenge. If you need a ride thru the wash, call the Cham- ber at 928-927-5200 and we'll transport you in. Everyone is invited to this fam- ily friendly event. Come on out and enjoy the beautiful evening at this time of year and watch the sunset. Acoustic music is welcome, too. On the National Day of Prayer, many Americans assemble in prayer in front of courthouses, as well as in houses of worship, such as churches, mosques, synagogues, and temples. Luncheons, picnics, and music performances revolv- ing around praying for the nation are also popular observances. Traditionally, the President of the United States issues an offi cial Na- tional Day of Prayer proclamation each year as well.
