The DELTA PSI SIG Delta Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity at RPI Spring 2017 O n September 17, 2016, the Pinewoods Educational Foundation members conducted a 4.5-hour seminar titled "Interviewing Skills: How to Get Your Perfect Job" at 58 Pinewoods, in Troy, N.Y. More than 20 students participated in the seminar led by Dennis Pow- ers '63 and Rui Soares '95 using materials developed jointly by the two. The session consisted of an instructional presentation, resume and cover letter reviews, along with mock interviews and individual feed- back sessions. Matt Miller '77, Doug Doskosil '83, John Baldwin '77 and Jim Manocchi '75 assisted with resume and cover letter feedback and helped conduct the many individual mock interview and feedback sessions. The seminar preceded the fall Alumni-Rush dinner at the Bill Pomeroy Chapter House. Job Interviewing Seminar Hosted by Pinewoods Educational Foundation M y wife and I just got back from Naples, Florida, where I got to play golf with Al "Fonse" Lubrano '71 and had din- ner with our wives and Jeff Cooper '74. Fonse recently retired but has a "part-time" gig. Coop is planning on spending seven months in Naples this winter and playing regularly there before re- turning to his apartment in the Philly area. In February, Jeanne and I went to the local RPI alumni televised hockey game. RPI got killed by Quinnipiac, but the real purpose of the night was to meet up with Gail and Bill "Evil" Han- son '73, whom we hadn't seen since last year's game! Evil's still working and enjoying his work at IBM. Evil's son, David, is a policeman at LSU and Michael "Hanstone" Hanson '12 just marketed a new card game called Manic- dotes, which one reviewer called, "a wacky sto- rytelling card game." Jayne and Mike Prescott '78 made their sec- ond consecutive appearance at the Crystal City Sports Bar. Halfway through the night, the "young Sigs" showed: Nick MarcAurele '15, Charles Carletta '14, Bill Mehner '15, Evan Kaiser '15, and Andrew Greenstein '15. In June 2017, Ryan Williams '15 is planning to move to Arlington, Va., where "the boys" live, as is Adam Weltz '11. I'm hoping to get some golf- ing in with the young Sigs as I now have to play weekends due to my full-time "employment" as daycare provider for our granddaughter! And while both get-togethers were great, reality returned as I learned that Doug "Mel" Dosko- cil '83 had died after a long illness on March 4. They had a "calling" for him up in Andover, Mass. Mel had volunteered over 10 years ago to be a class coordinator for the class of '83. He was able to get many of them back for Home- coming in 2015, in 2010, and at our Dedication in 2013. He left his wife, Cindy, and two sons, Jake Doskocil '19 and Sam Doskocil '18, both undergraduate Delta Psi Sigma Chis. Mel was only 55 years old—too young to enter the Chap- ter Eternal. I heard from Joan and Dan "Spurt" Burt '69 that they had visited Joyce Serocke, widow of Chris "Zoomer" Serocke '73, who entered the Chapter Eternal in September 2016. Spurt had surgery mid-March and will be out for six weeks. Other news includes Ed Youngkin's '74 retire- ment at the end of March and the successful back operation of Alan "HJ" Hanbury '74 in Febru- ary. As Ed is looking forward to picking up his clubs again, HJ may have to wait a few months before he gets back into the swing of things, but he promised to make the Belmont Stakes in June. Joann "Sam" Wood, wife of Gary "Slug" Wood '71, moved into her new home last fall. Pete "Zurst" Wurst '04 is expecting his third child in April, making Bill "Turk" Wurst '71 a grandpa of five. Jim "Crambell" Campbell '70 said that his "SIGnificant other," Sandy, is recov- ering well from hip surgery. I feel like I should be selling NY Life Insurance sometimes… Our Delta Psi of Sigma Chi 45th consecutive Belmont Stakes is nearing on June 10. Last year, Kyle Sullivan, son of Ken "Snags" Sul- livan '73, won the handicapping trophy when "Creator" won the Belmont. Fittingly, after a downpour following the race, THE Creator cre- ated a magnificent rainbow as we were leaving the track. So I'm sure Snags had something to do with his third son's victory as all three sons have now followed their three-time Sigma Chi handicapping champion father into the winner's circle. Speaking of winners, Missy Cosgrave, the third child of Paul "Cos" Cosgrave '72, will be married on September 30 in Napa, Calif. The venue is not in Indiana so her brother, Matthew, can perform the ceremony. The next BIG Homecoming is scheduled for October 2020 as Delta Psi celebrates our 70th founding anniversary. We will also be hon- oring Archibald Love '42,"Arch" or "Archie," on his 100th birth year. Arch entered the Chapter Eternal in 2000 and was an original inductee into Delta Psi in 1950 and served as chapter advisor to both Phi Epsilon Phi from 1942-1950 and Delta Psi Sigma Chi from 1950-1987. He was Delta Psi's first Order of Constantine award win- ner and we will do a special ceremony honoring Brother Love in 2020. In Hoc Signo Vinces, Bob "Ruff" Hutnick '71 bobhutnick@gmail.com Notes from Bob "Ruff" Hutnick '71 and Others Chris Serocke '73 Enters the Chapter Eternal C elebration of life services for Christopher "Zoomer" Serocke '73 were held on October 1, 2016, in Mission Viejo, California. Joan and Dan "Spurt" Burt '69, Paul Cosgrave '72, and Bob "Barney" Shortle '74, along with 350 neighbors, friends, and co-workers, joined Joyce Serocke and the Serocke family to honor Chris. Joan Burt coordinat- ed a Sigma Chi floral spray of blue hydrangeas and white roses in the shape of the Norman Shield. The Norman Shield greeted guests at entrance of the Mount of Olives Lutheran Church. The Sigs group joined the family after the church reception at the Serocke hacienda, where Dan Burt mixed special margaritas at the poolside bar (the (Continued on back)
