As pledges and actives we took most of the daily activities at the Alpha Psi house in stride: going to class, studying together, working together, party weekends, mixers, road trips, meals together, mozo duties, serving as officers, etc. We were building a lifetime of brotherhood and we were growing as individuals. All of us were indeed fortunate to have spent our years at Rolla in this environment. This is why the preservation and the growth of the Alpha Psi chapter is so important: so that our current active brothers and those in the future can benefit from being a part of Theta Xi traditions; and to help them become socially, as well as academically, prepared to take their place in society. To learn skills that will make a huge difference in their future, as they have in ours. "Older and wiser" is a phrase often used – and rightly so. As alumni, we should all prepare to give back now to our home away from home. The memories and lessons learned there are precious to us. Let's make sure that Alpha Psi continues to grow, prosper, and carry on the Theta Xi traditions at Rolla for many years to come. Spotlight on some of the largest donors, so far. The brothers spotlighted below and on page 4 have all committed to give $25,000 or more to the New House Campaign Fund. Thank you to our other $25,000 and above donors: Carole and Mark Walters '68, AY 230; Sharon and John F. Alvarez III '76, AY 292; and Sandy and Brian D. Miles '76, AY 293. Brad Hornburg, AY 200 W hen I was at school, being the president of the AY Alumni Association was the furthest thing from my mind. I didn't even know who those guys were, but every time I heard about them, it was because they were bitching at us for something. (It usually involved Jack Carter being drunk or naked, or both.) Now I am the president, and I couldn't be prouder. This is a new day, and the relationship between us and the chapter is a brand new concept. I am personal friends with and a mentor to the chapter president. Other alumni officers have partnered up with chapter officers, and are guiding them too. The house is on a roll. It was down for several years, and almost died a few times. Joe Kuss, AY 234 and his alumni kept it alive, but they didn't have any resources to make a big splash. Now we do. Thanks to Ed Sullivan's, AY 201 plea for emergency donations, we survived the worst, and have improved every aspect of "Life at Theta Xi" in Rolla. I'd love for you to visit the house and meet these kids. They are impressive. So, "Why did my family donate to the New House Building Fund?" Because we had to. We could not stand idly by and watch the chapter fail. And we had to grow to survive. Competition for incoming students is fierce in Rolla. The new houses have a distinct advantage when it comes to impressing moms and dads about where their little boy will live. I want them to live at 1605 Pine! I want to recruit the next president of the Alumni Association. And I want to give him the same opportunities I had, so that he loves this house like I do. Campaign Status At-a-Glance Goal: $1,000,000 Total Raised as of March 10, 2017: $424,193 Number of Donors: 37
